since the last service check at the Ford station mine E350 7.3 D uses a lot more fuel . normally it takes like 8 gallons for 125 miles (which is also a lot compared to the figurs I read here) now it dropped to an 105 miles on 8 gallons.
The samples you've given are too short in duration for any comparison to be made IMHO. There are way too many variables when calculating MPG. The 1st one is filling the tank. Did you stuff the tank full or stop when the pump tripped 'off'? Are you measuring the same ~120 mile stretch of the road.? Up hill, down hill? Tail wind vs head winds. Heavy right foot (biggest varible) ect ect ect.
Record keeping over long periods of time and milage will give you the best guestimate of your actual MPG.
You are talking only a change of 2 mpg. that is probably effected most by idling more than normal. Whenever you idle you are getting 0 mpg, and all of that brings down your overall average. You do not want to cut your cool down or warm up time though, as that can effect engine wear
ok that sounds good but the strange thing is that the last two years this never happens it was allways i kind of predictable. (not on the mile exactly but still)
and since the fuel Diesel here in holland is D#%* expensive € 1,00 a liter so about 4,50 dollar the gallon.
so maybe it also just my wallet-eyes who are looking.
I thought that it might had something to do with an old fuelfilter or airfilter.
If I don't change my kwik filter 6637 every 8 to 9 thousand miles, mpg drops about 2 miles per gallon. Jcab
