i have a 88 f250 4x4 5speed 7.3idi thats overcharging. New alt. 100 amp, new voltage regulator, new batteries 880 cca, and new battery cable. Trying to charge, starts at 14.5 and slowly charges to 22 volts. Any idea whats wrong????
Can you check the charge at the battery with an volt meter to confirm guage readings, AP store will when you take it back. Just do not boil the batteries...
Make sure you don't have the feild terminal on the alternator hooked up to direct battery power, that will give you unregulated out put. Regualtor should keep the feild voltage below 14 and may even be lower depending on Current demand on the alternator. Otherwise the contol circut in the regulator is on full and not doing its job.
