i just bought a 77 f350 off ebay. its being shipped in and is not here yet. and i've been on ebay. does anyone know if the a/c system from a 78 bronco would work in my truck? my truck has a 400 and is 2wd. thanks
Sure, there are aftermarket solutions that might make life easier if the truck was never equiped with A/C. Pick up any classic hot rod book and you should find several companies offering retrofit kits.
like ReAX said, if your F350 did not originally have factory A/C, it will "fit", but it is not an easy task. If you do a search, there is a post where someone has done it. I will basically require a big hole in your firewall, and a lot of time. If your F350 did have factory A/C, I believe that the A/C parts will more or less interchange.
no it didn't come factory with a/c. but it was 80 today. i was just hoping it would not be to hard to get the bronco system to work. so you guys think its worth 400? or should i look for something like vintage air? thanks
Yea, I think vintage air was who I was thinking of. The system is not that hard to hook up, but you don't have a box for the evaporator, the doors to control the divider, the controls for any of it. A kit is probably easier than peicing it together.
Not knocking the factory ac unit at all, but an under dash uniti would be easier to retrofit and it would leave more room under the hood to work on the engine.
The extra room under the hood would be nice. Plus, you can use some "Tall" Valve covers on the engine. My cab that I'm using is set up for Factory A/C so I'm using it.....But definately if it wasn't, I'd be looking for an underdash setup. Those things can blow some really cold air also.
