Adding OEM Fender Flares

I am wanting to add OEM Fender Flares to my 2005 5.4 XLT. I am wondering if any Techs or FX4 owners could tell me if I am going to have to drill holes on the outside of my fenders, beyond the pre-drilled holes in the wheel well. Thanks for your help!

That is how they install them at the factory but you don't have to drill holes on the outside of the fenders to install flares.I installed OEM Lariat flares on my 06 F150 by just drilling holes in the fender lip in the wheel well area.I have installed flares on several other vehicles, the key to a good tight fit between the flare and the body is drilling the holes in the right spots in the fender lips.

How are your flares holding up using this method of install? Did you seal the new holes with silicone?

They are holding up good.Yes I sealed the holes with silicone.
The only issue I have at the moment is the heads of the black anodized screws I used are looking pretty rusty.I need to replace them.
I thought about leaving the flares in place and replacing the screws one at a time. But the more I think about it I should probably remove the flares, clean the dirt and crud out from underneath them and reinstall them with new screws.

Nice looking truck you've got there. Mines all Toredor Red, going to add the flares using your method once this flippin rain season is over. How many screws did you use per flare and did you screw into the area on the flares with the indent?

Thanks, I used the holes that were already on the lip of the flares.I can't remember if there are 4 or 5 holes on each flare.

Well, I just got the OEM style flares off ebay and they don't have any holes in them.
Does anyone have the pics or measurements of how far apart I should drill holes in my XLT's fender and the flares?

Dallassupercrew,

Who did you buy your flares from? I have been looking at them on ebay and found them for $245 painted, all hardware and shipped but haven't heard anybody mention this company before. Did you get yours painted?

Thanks

Yep, that's what I got. Having a friend paint them.
Their customer service said use the self tapping screws that
came with it to install.

Are they an exact match to the factory flares?

Did they come with installation instructions?

I was going to have them paint them, $100 is not bad.

The seem to be a good match just holding up to the fender. I'm still worried about putting holes in my fender...
