Anyone ever had these freeze up in the caliper bracket? I've been trying to get one out with no luck. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
I've heard of it on other vehicles. If you have broken the pin, you can drill and easy out the pin. If it's stuck on the spindle, try grabbing it with a pair of plyers and twisting. I've had good luck with kroil as a penatrating oil.
Different models have different kinds of pins. The ones on my 94 F250 are like long pegs with a rubber inside so you can squeeze the pin to release it. Others are bolts, some are pins inside a rubber boot with bolts thru the pins to hold the calipers. There are all kinds of ways to do this so we need to know more.
In general some kind of penetrating oil and taps with a hammer to setup vibrations will work with bolt type pins. The squeezy ones like I have just need big pliers and a punch and a hammer and 3 hands to remove.
I had good luck with two pairs of plyers on the your kind of pins. The needle noses could fit in and be pushed against the retaining tabs. Once the retaining tabs cleared on the back side, I would use the second set of plyers as a movable fulcrum.
PB blaster+vise+wrench.Once you get it out clean out the hole.I used some emery coth to clean the rust out.It will come out it takes some work though....
thanks thats what I have been doing for hours now. Pb blast plus wrench and its not budging. Oh well. tomorrow is another day I guess. Guess I will be going to ford and buying a new bracket
Interesting, anyone happen to know if that upgrade fits 150's? I've had trouble with those pins on my last 3 trucks. Can only imagine it's just a matter of time before it happens on my new one.
PB Blaster and a 13/16" (if I remember correctly).
I stood on the caliper bracket and pushed down on the wrench....worked it back and forth then pulled it out with some channel locks. Cleaned them, lubed them and reinstalled.
While changing the ball joints in my friends ranger we noticed that one of the pins were stuck, so we heated the area up with a torch for a while, then sprayed it with PB blaster, then stuck the little peice sticking out into a vise and twisted it and it finally broke loose. Definately dont forget to clean out the hole.
