new king pin trouble
i checked thru the artical's and found nothing on this.i am putting my spindle's back on and ran into some trouble.i have too much play up and down on the spindle.i am installing the new king pin set in the same order the old one's came out.on top the cup with the felt down then push thru the knuckle,then the two shim's as you go thru the axle,then the bearing between the axle and knuckle with the solid side down.i did try all 4 new shim's on one side and took up some of the play.do i need to just get more shim's and take out all of the play? i mike'd the bearing's and they are the same as the old one's.they did have alot of play in them when i took it apart to start with.i thought when i put new kit in it may have fixed this.thank's, tracy

i just got thru digging thru my stack's of book's and found my own answer.i still would like to know if there is a clearance i should set the play at or just a good tight feel.thank's,tracy

thank's bob,it look's like i am going back together correct.i have 4 new shim's from the new king pin kit and 4 from when i took it apart.i am going out to the garage now and try useing what i have for one side.if it work's out ok i have a order for s.v.ford to order on monday.they have shim kit's with 6 in a pack for fixing the vertical play that i have .i am also going to order the heavy duty tie rod kit to go with my toyota power steering install i have already mounted.thank's again. tracy
