I need to know of a complete kit out there on the aftermarket that are good reliable kits for straight axle conversions with a dana 60. I know that people use d60's out of older fords from the 70s and early 80s but will a d60 out of a 96 f350 work?....Are they the the same axle? and what about a dodge d60 are thoughs the same?
on the dodge D60 the pumpkin may be on the driver side, may have to swap out t-case to make it work. BroncoGraveYard.com has the only axle swap kit that I know of. I have been running their kit for a couple of years and it is stout. the draw back with this kit is the radius arm brackets hang low. When I went from a 78 D44 to the D60 I had to put on a new track-bar. as far as a 93 axle i belive it would be easyer to do a leaf spring front axle swap with this axle.
I have done a 81 bronco and used most of the stock buckets and brackets off of a 79 f-150 i had . you will have to amke a new steering arm due to the box on the opposite side of the frame , . I mounted my track bar into my frame rail because i broke my first mount off. you will also need to brace youre radiusarm drop brackets
do you guys recommend using a one ton axle like a d60 or is that over kill.... i dont plan on being that agressive as far as wheeling it but have it mostly a commuter.....and what about that rear axle.....it being short would the angle be a problem as far as breaking u joints wheeling and vibrations. I've heard the 8.8 is a strong axle
locate a hi pinnion D44 front and run a sterling 10.25 rear and your set. you can make an 8.8 strong but the cost vs buying the sterling wouldnt calculate you know what i mean. a D60 would be necessary if you plan on running 38"+ tires and wheeling it hard to boot. did you check out that other site?
