Guys I got a score on a low mileage shortblock from a 93 Mustang GT and was wanting to know what all would I have to do to install that shortblock in my truck which has the E4OD transmission? By the way it's a 302 motor...
I do, but I found out that the heads that were on my truck are E6's after taking them off last night... By the way did E7's have dished tops for the pistons...? Another thing where do I get the casting number off of the block Conan?
The difference in pistons used from the factory was the heads topping it. This has no relation to the block casting numbers. The E6 headed 5.0's had no valve reliefs in the pistons, because the valve seats are 1/8" deeper in the head than all other small block heads. This moved the valve heads 1/8" farther away from the pistons, hence the absence of the reliefs.
No believe it or not I am working on two trucks at the same time practically talk about time consuming and I am getting confused everynow and then.. Now if say I had a E7TE block and some E6's on the block for heads would be a safe bet that I will have clearance for GT40 iron heads?

That depends on what pistons are in the block. The block casting number has absolutely nothing to do with piston to valve clearance, the blocks are all interchangeable, this includes the E6SE, E7TE and the F1SE 5.0 roller blocks.
