Shortblock

Looking at a 2005 X 6L Powerstroke diesel with 146,000 miles. Had a shortblock replacement at 117,000. Would this have corrected the likely causes for future engine failure which I understand is all too common in this
engine?

That Depends the 05 might have the upgrades or might not

Why are you looking for a Shortblock

what year is it going into

Carfax indicates shortblock replacement at 117,000 mi in 2010. Excursion.

It will probably have similar requirements and needs as any 6.0L PSD. If it was a short block it will have the original heads, injectors, HPOP, etc. You will need to monitor the coolant temps with a data reading gauge, monitor the FICM, basically treat it as any used engine. It might have gotten upgraded STC fitting, stand pipes and dummy plugs, it might even have head studs. But you will do what we all do to keep the engines happy, nothing changes there.
