How much oil does our beast take? And can I use regular Rotella... I am not paying 72.00 for a dealer to do it lol.. Rather just do it myself.. and its 15w40 in Texas right??
15.5 quarts amigo! Just buy 4 gallons, and call it good. My last full-price oil change at home was $50.00. OH! I'm using that grade, 15/40 here in SoCal...

Motorcraft filter ok? I normally use international but I forgot to order it and I don't feel like driving into downtown austin tomorrow to pick one up.. Ford house is next door to me.. It's few bucks more but less drive and hassle with weekend traffic.
Also Imma put my Fumoto Valve in... Do I need to wrap the threads or anything??
Get the Power stroke filter @ wally world. <$20.00, and no, the fumoto has a fiber washer that works great. Don't muscle it too much on the install. Just compress the washer to the point that it starts to squish. If you still have un-spent energy, go lift a Bud Light.
15.5 quarts will over fill your 6.0L. After draining, about 1 quart will still remain in the HPOP. Use 14 quarts to start, and then check the dipstick. If it reads over min, leave it alone. At 14 quarts it should read about 1/2 way between min and max. Too many people over fill their 6.0L's and have running issues. Ford manual says 15 quarts, but that is too much. I always use 14 quarts, but some use only 13.5. Remember to have your oil filter cap off when draining.
For oil, good old Rotella T 15W-40 will be fine for you. I have been using Rotella for over 78,000 mi with great results.
For oil filters, use either Motorcraft or Fram CH9549 (make sure it has the felt gasket and is made in the USA or Germany). Both filters are the same as you get from your local IH dealer.
Ozx is correct about the Fumoto. Install it with no teflon tape, and do not over tighten.
Ford says 15 quarts but some oil remains in the engine. Most people here say add only 13 1/2 to 14 quarts. 15 quarts over fills the 6.0 and it dosen't like it according to the experts on this site.
I recommend the $3.50 filters at Checker/Schucks or Pep Boys. It is in a Fram box although is the exact same filter as Motorcraft and Racor... See this thread for more info--> https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...3-25-each.html
Also, as previously mentioned, the 6.0 usually only takes 14 quarts to fill to mid hashmarks on dipstick. Good luck
i get my motorcraft oil filter at walmart everytime, if they dont have it get the fram filter, they are exactly the same.............and the rotella 15w-40 is always there for $9 a gallon........................also power service diesel fuel additive is $16 for the big bottle at walmart...................at least the on i go to here in north texas has all of it.

Same as the one in my neighborhood here in SoCal, but they don't have any of the tire dressing that Bear uses...
