i own a 1979 bronco that is built for some serious offroad action. I have a 460 in it with a new 750 cfm performer carb. What is the purpose of installing a MSD offroad ignition or a Jacobs offroad Ignition. Does it really make a difference and is it even worth it for 200 to 300 dollars.

I still have the stock ignition on my 351, but i have heard really good things about both systems. Your engine will run a bit smoother, your fuel economy will probably increase, and you will definitely get better throttle response and a small increase in horsepower. I believe both of those systems are completely waterproof as well, so you want have to worry about getting water on your distributor anymore.
I had the Jacobs. Liked it alot. The system performed flawlessly for the years I had it on my vehicle. When I changed plugs, the electrodes were worn away, and I never knew it. High voltage is the way to go.
Mt drag racing buddies swear by MSD. A cheaper system than the Jacobs, and everyone sells MSD stuff.
I have had great results with Jacobs. Not with my Bronco, but with a previous stree/Strip car. I have nothing but good things to say about Jacobs, but you cat go wrong with MSD either.
how hard is it to install one of these msd or jacobs systems. I have a 460 with a 750 cfm carb and a mallory coil. I have a dual battery setup and the distributor has no vacum port. The only lines running to the carb are the pvc one and the fuel. I have what i might remember as two wirers coming from the distributor. Just wondering if it is possible to install one and how hard it would be.
i have a 79 pu with a 400m in it up here in alaska in can get to 20 below zero and it did a couple of winters ago with out the msd 6al the thing would not keep run had to baby the motor till about 135 degrees temp and the choke took over . now that i put the box in with the regular box and dist. it fires right up and purrs 20 below and the motor has frost on it nice passed emissions no problem and very clean even with no cat. i didnt say that out lond did i up graded later to 8.8 wires and msd coil . when i take the msd off the motor can tell performance is down and gas milage also aslo running 180 t stat even in winter a little cold when 20 below but nice
It's extremely easy to install, and go with MSD, you will NOT be sorry. I've NEVER EVER heard anyone complain about MSD, great products. Every kind of racer uses them, i've heard a few complaints about the other companies not living up to either advertisements, but my MSD delivered.
