01 died. . . nostart

Well my buddies parents truck(01 250 PSD CC SB 4x4 AT) was driving home and i guess it decided that the parents needed to stop in at the local Red Ox restaraunt because it ran rough and died right next to it. My first thought was CPS. . . but it won't start again. They said the SES light came on. . . but I have yet to see it since. It cranks like crazy. . . fuel pump is audible, it is filled with Diesel I check the IDM relay. . . it works. No fuses blown. Something wierd here. I'm thinking it could be CPS or IDM. I've never screwed with the IDM on this engine yet. . . where is it? I'm thinking while my truck is down. . . I'll swap them and see if it works. Something else wierd is going on it with. . . I don't think its related but when you turn the Ignition on. . . wait about 7 seconds and the ABS box infront of the drivers side battery clicks and the motor spins for a split second. But it sounds like the bearing went out in it. Any ideas on any of this?

Have you checked to make sure it is getting diesel though. Replace the fuel filter and make sure diesel is getting up there. I bet that is where the problem is.

CPS, fuel

Well I cranked and watched the Tach. . . it moves so I believe the CPS to be good. I pulled out the fuel filter. . .t he bowl was full of fuel. . . and the filter looked ok. I don't have one to replace it so I couldn't try that. But seeing as how the bowl is full. . . I would assume that its still flowing fuel. I'm really leaning toward IDM. Is there any good way of testing that?

some one posted in here the other day that ford had changed something so that the tach would not be affected by a faulty CPS anymore

John is correct, with the tach moving on an 01 the CPS is good. The IDM is above the driverside wheel well liner at about the 2 o'clock position on the tire.

it was the IDM

Well it worked when I plugged my IDM into it. So I'm glad that was it since I went through the trouble of checking. Wheres a good place to pick up a new one?
