I have that ever loving 4 sp manual with the granny gear first,it runs way too many rpms. Is there a 5 sp or better 4 sp that I can switch out(maybe the ZF from a diesel?)
what will fit ,without mods and so on.

Well, a friend of mine has a four speed manual in his 86 Bronco with a 300 I-6 without a granny low. So there is a four speed manual out there but I don't know the model number or the length which would determine if you need to shorten/lengthen your drive shafts. I do know that there is zfs-542 which is a five speed with a granny low and an overdrive which would solve your high rpm problem and keep your granny low. But I am almost definite that it is longer than your current four speed(probably a t-18/t-19 or a np435). So, there's that driveshaft problem as well as dealing with your linkage for your t-case. There is also the M50D 5-speed that was offered in later broncos with the 302 and maybe the 300. But I am pretty sure than would be longer as well. The most feasible solution to your problem sounds like the four speed in my buddies 86 but I don't know much about it. Good luck. I would like the measurements if you can please,thank you.
I don't mind the driveshaft length/short,just wondered about the bellhousing,and shifter/transfer linkage.
