Just got a 2000 v10 "x"

Just purchased a 2000 v-10 X. besides changing all of the fluids, what else shouls a guy do. Has 93000 miles. What ever I need to change do you have any suggestion for performance or quality as far as plugs (if I need to replace) or air intake system to change current filter. Everything is stock. I am not a mechanic can change oil and other simple stuff. Thanks for all the help. You guys are great. Real good info for this novice.

Plugs buy ONLY motorcraft (many problems with other brands). Id also do the fuel filter, you will need the plactis disconnect tool to do this. Its just a lil plastic ring, pretty self explanatory when you look at the plastic ring and the connection, just gotta wiggle it in there so it pops the spring outward and itll puill apart. Sometime syou have to get a lil crazy with em but they will come out eventually. I light spray of wd40 helpds with stubburn connections ive found. Also you may want to consider changing teh boots on teh sparkplugs. The coils sit above each sparkplug and just have a long rubber boot that goes between em, they get old and crack =and leak the spark. Cheap and easy, id consider it mandatory with new plugs.

Be very careful taking out the old plugs if you decide to change them, make sure you install the new ones carefully as to not crossthread them. The older v-10s have very short threads to hold the plugs in the heads and you do not want to upset them in any way. Also make sure to use a good torque wrench to properly torque t hese bolts. Very important to help prevent a sparkplug from blowing out on you.

You buy em seperatly, usually you get 6 different sizes in a pack.

Heres what a couple common ones look like.

Again all you do is find the size that fits closest to yor fuel line, slip it around the fuel line, and slide it down into the groove, theres a small spring that goes all teh way around inside that groove, this tool lifts it up and away all the way around, allowing the connection to be released. You usually have to wiggle it and the line a lil and just monkey around with it till you get it to let go. Some are very easy, some are a huge pain.

Also, if you dont wanna buy the tools (or if they only have the fancy more expensive ones at teh store) the bigger parts store chains have rental tools, and they should have a fuel line disconnect tool kit. YOu just pay the full price up front, and when you return the tools in good working order you get the full refund.

Ive heard some bad things about the k&n. Some of the reports say that since the K&N;s let in so much air, they also let in some dirt. Thats why i would never attach it to my engine. Can you really even tell the differnce if you add in a intake.

Guiri is right, this forum is an awesome place. There are really cool people. Ive also learned a crap load from the time i joined.
