Rep Points For Amiller93 (rant)

Just to get your attention.......WE SUCK IN THE DIESEL FORUM!!!

I'm prompted to start this thread because of ANOTHER thread that I was involved with about a week ago.

That thread was titled "Reputation Points"....and it was started by FTE member joshdvirnak....Please search for it and read through it and pay particular attention to post #120, which is one of MY posts........

In that post, I made a personal appeal for one of our members. This member is Alan. I doubt that he knows that I exist...and he has no idea that I made any appeals on his behalf, and may even be pissed that I did so, but I don't care.......

For those of you who do not know, reputation points are awarded from members to other members who display good advice, good pointers, humor, good sportsmanship, whatever........When members make the effort to help out other members, they usually receive "attaboys" from the helped members....or from those who SAW the help and just wanted to send a thank you to the helpful member.....

Who is more helpful with diesels than Alan?....(amiller93)......

As a matter of fact, Alan is often called for by name, and one thread (very recent) had his name in the title.....Alan ALWAYS chimes in with support...sometimes with graphs, pictures, whatever, and free-of-charge, he dispenses professional advice that most people PAY for........That's OK....we're a family here, but give him credit when it is due........

Now HERE is the travesty....I've been with FTE little more than a year and have 1200 posts...I enter a lot of threads....do a lot of the political stuff....throw in a little humor...and here I am with 4 green reputation boxes and a "Great" reputation on FTE...yet I know about as much of diesel mechanics (or other useful information) as a 5 year old.......Alan (amiller93)....time and time again...and with over 3000 posts dispenses advice and wisdom and always answers the calls for help....AND was once mentioned as "truly a resource" by a moderator........and he's got one measely green reputation box by his name calling him a member who is "working towards becoming a positive member of FTE" .......Well......kiss MY a$$!!!.......This guy should have the "greatest" reputation on FTE....BUT WE DON'T GIVE HIM REPUTATION POINTS WHEN IT'S DESERVED!!!........

Again...Alan doesn't know me and any appeal I made on his behalf....It's just that the "reputation" thread knocked a gasket loose in me when I see Alan's posts....and his reputation level........

GIVE IT WHEN IT'S DESERVED, PEOPLE!!!..........

If someone deserves an "attaboy"......Look to the right side of the page where the member's name is located.....You'll see a white icon which looks like "scales" (like for weighing stuff).......Click on that and it will open a box which prompt's you to choose "I approve" or "I disapprove".........(obviously "I approve" will give a "positive"....)........THEN type in some comments....like....."thanks dude....The CPS thingee really worked!"...or whatever....).....Read the reputation threads, though, if you're confused......

And to Alan.....Sorry if I was out of line.......I'm HUGE on granting reputation points to members who deserve it (like you)..........and by the way....cool avatar...

Steve

p.s. "Rep" the people who help you, dammit!!!

Steve

Well that was quite the rant LOL. But point is made. Alan is always here helping. So are others. I recall when Kris aka strokin_it got his second greeny. He too is always here. Strange how these things pan out. I'm not so sure we are here for rep points, but it sure makes me feel better when I get feedback that I helped someone. Helping others and learning is why I am here, and enjoying the whole experience.

PS, I'd give you reps but you don't need them.

Whatever you do, dont post anything about stealership in the super duty forum, someone gave me negative rep because i said you need to go to the stealership to get a sticker and i must of offended someone by it cuz i got neg rep.

Now that my rant is over, i need to remember to leave rep more also.

I didn't know about the reps thingy, thanks for filling us newbies in on that. I will give reps to anyone who helps another person with any info for any question. Thats what everyone is here for, to help with our hobby, making our trucks better, and making new friends. Thanks to the members of FTE....

Steve makes a good point. If you look at the total number of posts. This forum leads the site for the most part when you figure the superduty forum includes us, but I spend little to no time there. We are accustomed to folks chiming in with help and expect it but give little reps. I can provide an address for beer though.

How to award rep points?

I asked jtharvey this very question awhile back, and this was his reply....

"As far as the reputation points on FTE, I’ve attached some screen shots to help explain it. Basically, you can leave someone points toward positive reputation on FTE whenever you’ve gained some valuable insight or knowledge from a post, or a user has done something good to help you out. Look at the “thread.jpg” picture. In the top of someone’s post, the green dots reflect the current reputation. You can see I have one, but someone like Kiwkkordead has several. He’s been left a lot of reputation points. If you click the scales of justice, it brings up a window that allows you to add reputation; see the “rep_add.jpg” picture. You click the radio button of approve, type your comment, and click the Add to Reputation button. Back on the “thread.jpg” photo, if you click the link at the top left of the page titled User CP, you can view your current reputation points, who left it, the comment they left, and for what thread (thread titles are links). See the “user_cp.jpg” photo for a screen shot of that. If you go to your User CP, you’ll see where I have left you some rep points for shipping the wheel to me. So, now you know what it means when someone says they’ve left some rep points, and how to add to another user’s reputation."

My reply to jtharvey was....

"I studied your elaborate explanation and photos, but it gave me a headache! Reminds me of some new fangled video game, and I never got much past Pac Man! My concerns are... Am I supposed to be awarding these points to others? If so, will/can others find out I'm not doing it? If they can/do will they be offended? Do I need to post an apology to whom it may concern, and explain that I'm too stupid/lazy to follow the procedure?"

Well after reading this thread, please accept my apology! I guess I'm going to have to learn how to award these points, even if it does give me a headache! Maybe someone at Smokin can stop by for a beer and show me in person?
