But the worse/best story was the old bat that got my neighbor's son's truck towed the night he returned from DEPLOYMENT. It wasn't registered because he was DEPLOYED. And to top it off it was covered for those 18 mounts, in his driveway, because he was DEPLOYED.
Seems to me way back that Service Men(and Women) had an exemption of sort for registered vehicles. I knew a guy who drove his (newly purchased)vehicle half way across the country with no tags on it. He got stopped but only had to show his proof of ownership and his Service ID. Thet let him continue his trip with out a hassle.

I'm wouldn't imagine anybody, with proof of Service ID, would do that either but they did in my town. Plus he was suppost to be gone only 6 months, no more, they said ...
My Condo Assn got the City after me when I was doing my 55 in the driveway. Had to move it into the garage,Ha, it was November anyway. After finishing it I drove it slowly around the Condo roads numerous times then parked it in the driveway with plates on.
nosy neighbors suck and all to often they take it too far, that servicemans truck getting towed makes my blood boil, that old bitch is lucky she's not living near me, cuz theres a hunnert ways to skin a cat and I'd be sharpining a knife over that stuff. there is also the other side of the coin as there always is, We live out in the country and not far from an indian rez. you should see all the 'informal' wrecking yards out there, good god! I'm sure they have some cool stuff, but that is an eyesore, the likes of which will toast your property values if you live within a 1/2 mile. There are also some folks down the road from us who are nasty, old school busses, at least 10 rigs most of which can't possibly run..etc etc, so to me one or two rigs which aer uder construction is no biggie..but then we're not it town or the burbs by a long shot.
When I moved to Maine I built a barn/workshop for Willard and my cars. I vowed that I would not have a car that was not stored in the barn. I have kept my promise to myself for 13 years now. If I want a different car, I have to sell one. Which I have also done. Where it all changed was the addition of boats. Now in the winter I store 3 boats outside and covered. In my area, the coast of Maine, that is very acceptable and often done. The lobster fishermen store their boat at home if they have a suitable spot. The town that I live in has a rich fishing history and the likelyhood of prohibiting storage of boats on the property is zero.
One problem that I do have is that I should have built a portion of the barn with a higher ceiling for a lift or bringing a larger boat in for work.
I haven't had this problem yet because I have a fairly big garage and we have an atv, 14' Boat, two Harleys, large tractor, and a small lawn tractor, and then the '48 f-1, and now i just got my '49 f-3 home last night and it is sitting in the drive way because i have no more room and i really hope the neighbors don't mind but i have a feeling they will. considering they complain about my dogs who bark about once a week!!
Its so stupid!!, maybe i should just park my '49 in there yard so then i can complain to them!!!
Some Real Estate agents, when the list a new house. will report all the visible code around the listing to help it sell. So don't blame your neighbors too quick. Look for the new For Sale sign donw the block.

Now seems like a good time to mention thet SEMA Action Network. I can't say I know a whole lot about it, because I just found out about it, but they specialize in protecting our hobbyist rights, and help to lead the charge for proper eye sore legislation. I haven't joined, but supposedly you can get on their mailing list and get a heads up when legislation pops up in your area so that you can help fight it/change it, etc. www.semasan.com Check it out.
I'm lucky, my truck's tags are current and it's all one color so I don't get a lot of grief. But I agree with what's been said. If we as hobbyists don't like what's happening, then we've got a responsibility to lead the way. I've got the same issue with my dogs--they along with other breeds get a lot of bad legislation directed at them because other owners are irresponsible and their dogs cause damage, and even harm other people. I think the owner should be responsible, and that goes for old iron too! If it's out of sight (behind a privacy fence, under a car cover, or in a shed/garage/etc.) then it won't make the property value go down (aka not damage other people's equity), but we've got to lead the way in making legislation that protects our rights while protecting others rights too.
I was in the army and went to a war for this usa . so the freedom I was fighting for was not me and my old trucks .save a old building but not old car or truck
love what twisted 56 said re: nasty rusty old car and parking on the propertyline, cuz if they're givin' you crap over not much, give em something to cry about, like the spankins we got as kids for bieng whiny brats.
