if i wanted to change out my rear end would i have to change the front differntial as well? Or can there be a difference between them. i never run it on pavement i do go off roading every once in awhile but it is mainly used to pull in and out my boat.
I'm pretty sure if you swap gears you would want to swap both front and rear. I know that your gears need to be matched if you are going to use four-wheel drive. You can't have your rear wheels spinnnig at a different rate than your front. I'm not sure what you'd end up damaging or how bad it would be but it would definetly be more expensive to fix than to do the swap. Well anyhow good luck.
BTW. I would imagine that you could swap your rear out and at a later date swap the front. You couldn't use the 4x but hey if your towing a boat its not likely you'd need it.
It depends, are you talking about changing the gear ratio or are you talking about changing the whole rear end axle tubes hub and all? If changing gears then you can not do this the gear ratio has to stay the same to use 4-wheel drive you could do what bgblktruk said and swicth one at a time as long as you don't use 4-wheel drive. If you are talking about changing the entire rear and keep the same ratio as the front this is no problem. Hope this helps,
Rick
