TFI-IV ignition system ?
I finally figured out the ignition system in my 85 bronco 351w 2bbl auto or what kind it is. the question I have is does anyone else have this and if I remove all the smog stuff and change carbs (going with a Holly 500cfm) will I have to change the Dizzy? I am not to familiar with the system. this is what I have researched so far:
The TFI-IV ignition system features a universal distributor using no centrifugal or vacuum advance. The distributor has a die cast base which incorporates an integrally mounted TFI (Thick Film Integrated) ignition module, a "Hall Effect'' vane switch stator assembly and provision for fixed octane adjustment. The TFI system uses an E-Core ignition coil in lieu of the Dura Spark coil. No distributor calibration is required and initial timing is not a normal adjustment, since advance etc. is controlled by the EEC-IV system

Well, your advacne and such is controlled by the TPS and MAP sensor. If you remove the carb with the TPS sensor, you will get no advance. You would either have to rewire for an older Duraspark system or get one of the cool D.U.I. distributors from Performance Distributors. All you need for it is a 12v keyed power source. It's all self contained, internal coil and module.
I just got one for my 63 F100 that I have transplanted a 351W into. I will be installing it within the next week or so. I have a transplanted Duraspark set-up out of the donor truck (84 F250) in there now, but I think the DUI will be more efficient/powerful as well as will eliminate alot of unneeded wiring under the hood. Give them a call. They will set up an advance curve in it that will work best for your application.
