I am the happy and so far lucky owner of an 05 6.0 Ex. I hear that there are problems with this motor, but at 76,000 I have not had any. I would like to get another Ex, so that my golden chariot will have a companion, and I would like everyone's opinion regarding the 7.3 motor. What, in general, should I be looking for in a used Ex. I love my 05, which was a replacement for a 98 3/4 Burb; and I have never looked back. Long live the King of SUV's.
Had a 2000 Ex with the 7.3, should have kept it, but then that's a whole different story. Had 101,000 miles on it, ran like a champ. Never had a problem. The only thing I had do was change out the front rotors.
Now I have a 2003 Ex with 6.0 and 67,000 milies on it. The turbo went our at 62,000, but $100 dollars later that was fixed.
The 7.3 got a little less mileage (18-19) while the 6.0 (19-20). Hwy mileage, since we live 130 miles for everywhere, no town driving here, we walk everywhere.
Fuel filter and air filter are cheaper on the 7.3.
I do like the torq shift transmission on the 6.0.
If the maintenance is performed as required and it is not abused, I think either one would be great.
I think either one is good, however, I vote for the 7.3, having had 3, and still have one with only 90k, I have to say I believe the 7.3 to be a better choice. I haven't owned a 6.0, but have known more with troubles from a 6.0 over a 7.3. Although, I do REALLY like the torq shift tranny compared to my slushbox! I would say, whichever one turns out to be what you want and a good deal.
