carrier bearing condition

carrier bearing condition

over in the thread about u-joints someone mentioned changing carrier bearing with driveshaft u-joints. how much, if any, play should/can there be with the rubber bushing around the bearing. if i push up on my driveshaft it moves a little-ok or not? seems to me like there shouldn't be. my experience with carrier bearing is on big military trucks and when they got play they started jumping around in there when the torque was on the shaft.

if the movement is between the metal strap and the rubber. replace it. if the little movement is in the corratgated rubber section your ok more than likely.
