Yeah, there is nothing to it. Two little bolts hold it on the column. I had to open mine to clean it so my reverse lights would work. It can be done carefully by prying the metal cover off of the plastic housing. In my case the little ball contact had a flat spot worn into it so I reoriented it and all is good for a year now.
I think he means the bracket on the shift tube Bill .....as shown at bottom right.

That'd be it! But...mine doesnt just snap on lol its actually inside the column...believe me on this cuz I spent a good long while trying to figure it out. Weird as all he*$ but thats how mine is. But yes for lack of a better explanatinon...thatd be the other culprit...mine snapped just below the point where it was able to move it so I did what I did.

ok i have a 79 f250 and i have the same problem my truck wont start and after reading this i think it will work but if the nss is making it not start would that still prevent the lights and wipers to not come on even if the key is on? thanks for the help.

Here's the neutral switch Ford part number again: C7TZ-7A247-A (Motorcraft SW-600) this might solve the starting problem, but not the lights or wipers.
