I run Amsoil Extreme duty, series 2000 20W50 in my race car.
It sees extreme oil temps, pegging the gauge at 300* for long periods of time and at high RPMs. I have an oil cooler, but the rule set is very strict about altering structure and body panels. So, it's effectiveness is questionable ... I still see 40psi pressures at hot idle.
The motor was pulled from a wrecked car with 80K on it 4 years ago. I've been running Amsoil in it since I get it for cost through a sponsor of mine. Not a single issue and the dyno cert has shown the same numbers each year.
When the motor comes apart, I'm anxious to see what it looks like inside ...
I still haven't reached my first oil change interval for the PSD. Not sure which direction I'm going with it.
I just switched to the Amsoil 3000 series 5w30 and a bypass oil filter kit.
So far I am very impress with the kit and the truck seems to like the oil. Quicker starts and a smoother idle when cold. They do claim 25k filter changes. I don't think I will go that far. Maybe 10k for filter change and oil analysis. Good Luck.
I believe in Amsoil.....I don't believe the 20k-25k interverls I think that a little much. Like Bear Hunter said the viscosity has to have broken down considerably......I'm not going more than 7500
Amsoil is as good or better then most synthetic oils. That means its better then any dino oil. That being said I used it for only 2 changes in my 01, I Couldn't get the Mobil 1. Everything else has been Mobil 1.
As far as Oil change intervals, on my 01 I drove from 13,000 miles to 100,000 miles only changing the filter and refilling to the proper level every 10,000 miles (I would put 2qts in between changes because of useage, and it would take 2 to bring the level up at filter change)!! During that time I never had an oil Analysis done. After that I have changed the oil every 10,000 miles. At 230,000 miles I did have an oil Analysis done by Blackstone and their statement was my 7.3 was as good or better then most out there!!.
My 01 has 259,224 miles on it right now. Original injectors!!

There is an Amsoil Anamoly thread in the Oil & Lube sub-forum that's been running for quite a while. It's full of some heated discussions over MLM marketing tactics and other MLM peripheral info, but there is also a lot of good, solid technical information there as well. The thread has been quiet for a little while now, but the technical info is worth reading for someone who is truly interested in fact-based decision-making.
Personally, I'm running the Amsoil 5w40 in my '02 7.3L diesel, and have the OilGuard bypass filtration system to boot. I'm just now coming up on my first 5K sampling mark, and will be getting my analysis in the next couple of weeks. I also had the brand new oil tested by Blackstone so I would know what I was starting from. I would like to get 10K OCI's, but it will depend strictly on good analysis results. I've posted my OA's in the thread I'm talking about.

So MobeyDick, I am curious why you decided to do 87,000 miles with out a full oil change? Was it an experiment that you thought of or did someone recommend it? I would not dare do what you did, but congrats on the mileage you got on the engine.
Hey Bear hunter, you can run to their site, and yeah I know, you can find evidence to support any dumb thought. I was hookled whe I put it in my 71 chevelle and the RPM increased 200 rpm. I have used it in everything since. Again, it is totally up to you, you can find the positive and negative to anything.
I didn't really consider it an experiment. I had been doing the same in my 94 Chevy 6.5TD they only hold 9 qts. (I never completey changed the oil in that truck) I put 380,000 on it that way before I sold it. The motor was still running great. The front Drivers side wheel fell off for the second time. I figured if a GM product could do it a Ford with 15qts would have no problems.
I've used Amsoil for a good number of years in various vehicles with good results, although I don't believe in extended change intervals. I think I might try the 5-40 DEO synthetic when it comes time for me to switch from dino. The spec's on this particular oil look good.
15500 mi on my oil change, replaced filter and topped off
analasys was good ol clean as new Blackstone said it still had lots of cleanig agents left
will do the same in 12 to 15k mi
Just so you know, Amsoil is not certified to the specs that Ford requires for engine oil in the 6.0L engine (so I have been told) you could have engine warranty issues if you use it.

I'd be willing to bet that they surpass the Ford specs, who ever you heard that from was probably full of it.........just think about it, how would they even sell the stuff if it wasn't better than the cheaper stuff that Ford recomends?
