That is the most crazy thing I have heard. 15-20K miles between oil changes? Hey, its you engine. Give it a try!

If you want to go the full synthetic route, stick with a quality product like Mobil 1 or Castrol syntec. Bringing up amsoil in here usally bring alot heated debates. Mostly because amsoil is a MLM business.

I ran amsoil for two oil changes. I never went past 5K miles.

I am currently running Amsoil's CJ4 compatible Synthetic oil. It's been in for 2200 miles. It's getting an oil change on Thrusday. WON'T be Amsoil. Nuf said!

I run motorcraft sythetic blend now. Been that way for the whole 75K miles I have on the truck except for the two AMSOIL changes. I NEVER go over 5K miles per the scheduled main. guidelines in the owner manual.

As my engine gets older it burnes more oil. The full synthetic burns quicker that the thincker sythetic blend. Plus it is less than 1/2 the price.

Been using amsoil for 5 years. I just recently bought a ford so I'm kinda new to this site. In my GMC 3500HD I've got 296,000 miles on it. I was using their 15w-40 diesel oil and changing it at the 25,000 mile mark, changing the filter at 12,500 miles. I've since switched to their 20w-50 because of oil consumption. It uses a quart about every 1,000 miles. Changed the valve cover gaskets at 250,000 and the pan gasket and I couldn't believe how clean the engine was.
Their new filters are good for the duration of the oil change. No need to change the filter at the half way point. Make sure the oil you get from them is for the extended oil change interval. Some of the oil they sell is for 7,500 mile oil changes. Be sure you get one that's suited for 25,000 mile oil changes. If you go with their oil, use their oil filters.

I believe in Amsoil...ran it in a few other vehicles with no problem. just switched to it at 29k miles and will do 7500 mile changes. my buddy (and the person who introduced me to Amsoil) has a '96 PSD with over 250k on it has been running Amsoil since 15-20k miles and the truck has never had a problem....I mean never and he tows 5k-13k lbs everyday. we will see how it treats the 6.0...?

hey boxcar, sorry for the dumb question but what is MLM business? I've had a long day--I'll probably realize in the morning what it means.

edit: just googled "mlm business" and I wouldn't consider Amsoil a network marketing business.

I have yet to see someone produce an oil analysis with 20-25k on the oil. I specifically want to see what the viscosity numbers are. Bypass filtration might keep the oil clean, but it doesn't do any good if it has deteriorated down below acceptable levels.

I've been using Amsoil for 6 years now.No problems . I have introduced it to a few friends, and they were amazed by the differance they felt in performance .
Im not starting a flame , but I have noticed some people drive there diesels like they are gas motors with there foots in the acclerater , and next they are blowing gaskets and they start seeing oil leaks. And they blame the oil ,motor,etc....but not there driving habit.
Again Im not try to start a flame on here. Just stating what I have seen. Anything is possible. Its your choice of what oil you want to use,and what you want to pay.

Until someone shows some viscosity numbers with the super extended drain intervals...I would advise not to exceed factory drain intervals.

I'm not knocking AMSOIL...I'm using their gear lube, but making claims about super extended drain intervals in the 6.0 by focusing on how clean the oil is...and completely NOT addressing the viscosity level at that mileage seems fishy to me.

I'm still waiting on anyone who can post some viscosity numbers up at 20-25k

I've run Amsoil in all my cars since the 3000 mile mark and have no probs with any of them. I do change the filter and the oil at 7500 though just because I'm a creature of habit. So far I haven't seen any problems out of any of the engines bathing in it. 2.2 zetec, 4.6 three valve, 5.4triton, 306 DSS super pro bullet.

I've always been a redline oil fan...

www.redlineoil.com

Check out the oil change intervals on factory synthetic engines from Porsche, the Corvette, Touareg, etc.

10K miles is no problem for a quality synthetic, even under harsh conditions.

3,000 mile oil changes? Pure marketing bull****.

I did a whack of my own online research a couple of years ago into oil and filters. I did find some unbiased research but I'm too tired right now to find it all again, even if I do still have it. However it did come out that Amsoil is definitely good stuff, the best that I found tested actually. Next to that if you want to buy good synthetic oil get Mobil1 but I do run Rotella in my diesel. Everything else was pretty much just the same as the other. For filters I wouldn't buy anything other than Purolator, Wix or Mobil1, depending on what you can find.

As for real world application, I regularly run my car on extended oil intervals with Amsoil and a Purolator Pure One filter. I change the oil once in the spring and once in the fall. Run about 25000km a year on the car (15,500 miles). I've been doing this for several years with no problems yet, no oil consumption, or smoke indicating rings wearing.

Do some online research, you'll find that Amsoil is slipperier and does retain it's viscosity longer but Mobil1 was almost as good.

I haven't run synthetic in my diesel because the problem with extended change intervals in a diesel would be the contaminants in the oil, more so than visocosity breakdown (assuming Amsoil/Mobil1).

And now I have nothing to do with Amsoil and don't sell it. It's also not MLM as I understand it, it's franchised.
