I need to know if i have covered all my bases here. I have an 86 4x4 swb with a fi 302. As i understand the Engine grounds at the distributor, there is a cab ground near the accelerator, another ground beside the radio and the hood strap and engine ground from the battery. The reason i am asking is that my electrical system is getting worse by the week. At first it kept dying so I put it in the (joke) shop and they replaced all kinds of s@#t. I pulled the dash and cleaned the printed circuit and replaced the fuel guage cause it didnt work after paying the above referenced place to replace both sending units in my tanks and the tank selector switch. All fuses are ok but now my tach doesnt work, AND the speedometer quit. I have searched high and low for another complete guage cluster but here in clarksville tn the pickings are slim. Anybody know how to exorcise the electrical demon, btw my neighbor drives a chebby maybe i can send it to him. Thanks in advance
Nice to meet you I'm in Dunlap not that far from, lol. I am getting a 85 SB ford 150 4x4 I6 300 w/ granny 4 speed manual. You may find some here at the junk yards here. Theres plenty of fords in my area.
Mine has a 1 piece speedo cable @80 something inches long that is also impossible to find, btw is the plastic end that goes into the speedo supposed to be square or pointed on the end.
Take the speedo cable out of the tranny end, and while someone is watching the speedo, twirl the cable with your fingers and see if the needle jumps. You can put a battery drill on the end of it and turn it too.
ok i will try that. i already removed the speedo and tried my cordless on the speedo its'self and guess what my drill turns 85mph! btw the gear is new, i replaced it when i put bigger tires on.
