However, there is a stop welded on the frame to stop the armrest at level. You'll have to fab something up to stop them from falling.

Storm,

These guys are correct. It is just bolted to the side. It pivots up to a stop and down to a stop. As best I can measure, the pivot point should be somewhere around 8" +/- from the bottom of the seat back or 13" +/- from the shoulder seam (stitching).

I tried pulling the armrest away from the seat to get a better view. All I can see is a pin about 1/2" in diameter coming out of the seat back and it's attached to a metal bracket that forms the armrest. It might be one piece that attaches to the seat back, I can't tell. The pin is painted black, but the bracket is natural metal color almost like pot metal or something. I tried pulling the armrest cover off, but the foam is glued to the bracket and I don't want to tear it all to hell and have to reglue it.

If you need me to do anything else Storm, short of tearing my seat's apart lol, let me know. If your serious about doing this, you might check your local salvage yards for a set of seats out of a Sport or Lariat. Let me know if I can help out w/ anything else.

It's possible..

Dave.. I so sorry.. Any chance you can measure the width of your seat.. I'm kinda curious now how big the seats made ot have a console in the middle are.. I got to lookin at my inside and thought hmm.. If there was a console that doesnt give much seat room.. I'm wondering if they enlarged the seats to make up for the console space or is the console as wide as that middle seat..

If you can measure both the console width and the seat width

If I remember right the pin for the armrest is ectually part of the seatback, and the armrest is attached to it. I'm pretty sure someone around here got rid of thier console to add the center seat and had to take the armrest off and then cut the pin off the seat. He said it looked kind of ugly but you couldn't see it once the center seat was in. I don't think it would be very easy to add an armrest.

Storm,

Alright man, the seat back is 22" wide, not counting the armrest which is about 2.5" wide. The seat base is 23" wide at it's widest point. The console measure about 12.5" wide.
The seat's are right up against the console, but they don't touch. The armrest's overhang the console by about 2" or so.

Anything else you need man, let me know!!

Dave

I know it won't help Storm much right now, but I've had my armrest off before to put a set of seat covers on. It's a T45 or so bolt if I remember correctly. You have to pull the fabric away from the back of the arm rest to reveal the side of the rest. The bolt is right there. I can't remember the rest of the details though.

I talked to my ford dealer and I can get the parts.. I'll check my seat for the bolt hole.. The only thing that sucks is the arm rest is 125.00 unless I can find one in Junkyard.. Which I'll look around.. Once I find that I do have that bolt I'll put a massive request for anyone to check junkyards if they happen to be by any.. Its odd I live in Austin, capital of Texas and there is only 1 junkyard I know of and it sucks lol.. You'd think we'd have more considerin we are Rednecks out here LOL!

I've called every junk yard within an hour of me on 3 different occasions and they all think I'm crazy when I ask them if they have any Ford Super Duties. I guess insurance companies don't total them very often and even when they do I'm not sure where they go. I know when my 99 got totalled they wouldn't let me buy it back from them (said it has to be over 9 years old in IL?), and they wouldn't even tell me what junk yard they were sending it to.

I hope you get everything figured out though. Personally I like the center seat better as an armrest. I have broad shoulders and the little one from the captains chairs are too close to my side to be comfortable to use.

2002 XLT package with leather captains chairs and center console. Fold-down arms on chairs. Console is not high enough for my arm either, and I'm 6' even. I love the console, even though I was actually looking for the 40/20/40 setup due to my family size. Regardless, I really like the console and would do it again.

Hell no, they'd cut it up and make a pontoon boat out of it. Or a grille....
