Ok I have the superchip max micro 1715 tuner..truck is a 2001 5.4L, with any tuner will it hurt any oem part to play around with this and does the tuner change the shift pressures to get firmness ans shift points, I mostly run the default mode, Just wanting to tinker and did,nt want to harm truck...anyone with any info..
I run a Diablosport Predator. I have the global line pressure turned all of the way up and all of the shift set at the firmest setting.I also turned off the torque modulation. It shifts quicker and firmer. It's not neck snapping, just quick and firm so there is no slipping between the gears. It hasn't hurt anything.
i just picked up the same SUPERCHIPS programmer - and even though ive heard nothing but great things - im a little apprehensive about using this thing...(silly, i know)
is there anything i should know first - or is it fairly idiot-proof?
It seems to be idiot proof, I had mine for 4 years now, and I;ll play around with it sometimes, just be sure and pull the fuel pump fuse when programming, or at least my model truck it calls for it to be removed, you will here a swishing sound with each program, Nice tuner you want belie, the seat of the pants difference..I love it easy to use, If you can afford the gas try the preset performance 93 octane mode, I mostly use the 87..As stated in directions its a do it all tuner..let us know what you think..wow drj77 you have 4.56 detroits 03 5.4L, you should get quite a rush...
Thanks lexman for the peice of mind..A buddy of mine is a an auto mechanic and he said the chip if anything should help the drive train kinda lets it work like it was meant to..the nepa has everything so detuned, it actually hurts the life of some components..
...i just installed my first program...and thought i had removed the fuel pump fuse (@ first i did - and then i mistakenly put it back)
painfully - i realized this just before the program was finished installing.
however - i never started the car...i returned it to the stock program and then started the truck.
seemed fine.
then - i removed the fuse (AGAIN) and re-installed the tuning program - then started the truck.
seems fine.
so i know im an idiot...but is my truck gonna be ok?
drj
Your not an idiot and i did,nt mean it in an affendsive way at all, i did,nt catch the idiot part when I wrote the above, hey we all have to learn and i,m new to this awesome site..But i have had my superchip for 4 years now, tried about every tune it has, And only a few of the 93 octane which Ive read it works so well its worth the extra $$ in gas, sounds like you did good by letting it finish the tune, Im not sure why the fuel fuse needs to be pulled, But I dont think you hurt anything, I just want to know how you like it, I mostly run the tow, and shift and pressure parts, Im guessing with the edge theres no need to pull the fuel pump fuse, does anyone no the reason, Im guessing its just a liabilityissue...post up on results..
It's to keep the pump from running while it is programming. This could be bad if the truck is low on fuel. Also it takes drain off of the battery in case your's is a little weak. Varying voltage during programming can cause errors. My Diablosport Predator does not require removing the fuel pump fuse. It just says to make sure that you have all accessories off and don't open a door or anything that will cause a voltage drain while programming.
Good info thanks...I have,nt seen the reason in the owners manual..Makes since..At least its an easy fuse to get to..and dont take But 10min to upload new tuneing...I like it..
Firm up the tranny set points all of the way to the right as well as the global line pressure. I run the 93 octane setting. The increase in mileage and power outweighs the $.20 per gallon increase in price.

LxMan1 the global line pressure is that a diablo feature, the super has min-max shift pressure would it be the same..or close..
It has shift pressure and global line pressure adjustment. I am assuming that the global line pressure ups the pressure to the everything in the tranny, not just shifting.
LxMan1... My 98 F-150 has that REAL soft shift from1-2, always been that way, always has bugged me. If I buy that predator tuner will that adjust that? Also could I use that same tuner then on my stock 97 GT to play around with a custom tune? I grew up with a dwell meter so this stuff is confusing.
When the Predator is installed in your F-150, it becomes married to the truck. You won't be able to use it on the Stang except as a diagnostice code reader.
Question, if you install a program and need to remove the batterys is the program still in the ecu from the tuner or will I need to retune with the superchip...whan batts are replaced..
