I posted this about 2 weeks ago on Super Duty; I ordered a front hitch and will go ahead and photo the install over the next couple of days for anyone interested...got the front bumper off in about 15 minutes, but it got dark too soon. Hopefully I'll get to it by Wed.
Draw Tite; although no name was on the hitch when I got it: says "Made in Canada" and no you can't retain the fogs but I don't have them. I think you could relocate them based on the multiple holes; maybe reverse them to go just inside the grill.
I put one of these on right after I bought my 04 truck. I don't have the fog lights so it was no big deal. Did it in less than 1 hour. I removed the tow hooks at the same time. Wife actually helped, what a treat!
Every guy I know with a SD uses the front hitch for their removable push bar at Bonneville. Beats building 2 recievers. Good Luck
WOW! I now have 1 hour and 45 min into mine and still not done. I have remove the front grill so I can TRY to get the extra nuts on the back of the hitch/bumper...that's the trick and ofcourse figuring out how to realign the front bumper now that its WAY out of wack...anyways I'm finding out and photographing all the process...not as easy as it appears and I'm pretty handy with the wrench...maybe because I'm a perfectionist and want it all to line up perfectly!
Well first off those who said they did it in 30min to an hour either had a different hitch, help, or were on crack; making time fly! J/K...
The Bad: The hitch was severly scratched, fit was OK, not great, the bolts with the handles that come with the hitch are there because its SUPER difficult to put them on thus the need to have handles on them. What was not taken into account was how to put the washers on??? I used double sided tape...it also helps to have skinny arms and I HAD to remove the grill. The biggest problem was realigning the front bumper and after using a floor jack and 2 "C" clamps got it within 1/8 " of original fit.
The Good: I followed all directions without much problem aside from improvising the tape for the square washers and grill removal it was a simple task and all said and done I think it will serve muliple purposes for which it was intended. Glad I now have it. I also added the lic. plate holder since here in CA you have to have a front lic. although I don't know what I'll do if I use a bike rack.
Nice job and the pictures in your gallary are great. Didn't know Drawtight made a front hitch when I wanted to put one on my '03. I wound up putting on a Warn front hitch from the Cabela's catalog. It mounted below the bumper and I had to remove part of the lower air dam. Good thing is that I didn't lose the fog lights. I had to remove what they call the blocker beam located behind the bumper and bolt the hitch to it. The hard part was lifting the whole thing up with a floor jack and getting it aligned. The good thing is I didn't have to remove the bumper or grill. The hitch sure makes it easy to move the boat trailers around.
Thanks, mine was mostly a pain because I had no help; it wasn't brain surgery. I had hoped the pics wold be good so thanks...again my truck is filthy...it does get washed but I think every time I put pics on here its dirty.
