Exclamation Started tear down

Hey guys,I started to tear into my 66' this weekend. My plan is to do a long budgeted complete restore(but far from factory)I'm probably gonna get own everyone's nerves, but other than building a few motors this is my first rodeo. The first thing I chose to do was to remove the rearend and cut the wheel tubs out.I then set a pair of 33x19.5x15 M/T sportsman tires mounted on 15x15 wheels under the truck and lowered to get an idea of my ride heigh.Iwant it LOW! I have ran into problem #1. I could not get the front of the truck low enough.I guess my question is I've got the twin I beam I want disc brakes in front and prob about 4" drop.Ineed sugestions,HELP

Assuming we're working on a 1/2 ton you can get disc brake setup off a newer donor up to 79 and get drop I beams.

You can get 3 inch drop i beams from several companies, and 2 inch drop coils from lmc. Thats a total of 5 inches however thats not that low.

If you want to get the truck real low the ground, look into a mustang two front suspension for it. There are several manufacturers for the crossmember to put that in. Can't think of where I have seen them. You could also graft a Camaro subframe in cheaper but it is a lot more work and complicated to get everything lined up properly. I dropped my 63 about 7" and had to notch the rear frame to make sure the rear diff didn't hit.

If you are putting a V8 in the truck it will sit lower with the 6 cylinder springs.
to start with, also might look into drop beams from AIM or DJM. Once you get so many posts you will be able to search the site and learn more about the drop I-Beams because there are some issues. Is this a short wide bed or a narrow bed? If it is a narrow bed and you plan on using those wheels and tires that you mentioned above (and you are leaving the frame rails in the stock position) then they wont fit under the fenders. With my experiance in the way I Pro-Street ed mine, without using either a 3 inch or 5 inch wider fender. They probably will fit under a wide bed.
Do you have a narrowed rearend? As soon as you can will you add pics of your project?
Click on My Pro-Street article at the bottom of this post and it will take you to my (FTE) article, since you are Pro-Street ing it.

PS when you do get enough posts to search this site you may want to search my posts. I have posted on a lot of Pro-Street threads.

Look at fat man fab (http://www.fatmanfab.com/07page7.htm.) They have hub to hub kits, crossmembers, ect. for a 66'. I put 4'" drop Beams on my 65' back in 93' and was very easy. How low are you wanting to go? I will try to get some pic on my gallery this weekend so you can see what 4" will look like. It is not that low. There is a pretty good article on mustang II conversion with the fat man fab kits on a 68' at (http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/0703cl_1968_ford_f100/). This would give you an idea of what it would take. Not sure what kind of $ are in your budget.
