anti-sway systems

Can anybody recommend a good anti-sway system and where to purchase? I have a 03' 6.0 pulling a 10k pound, 33' travel trailer.

maybe I should elaborate: I'm talking about the system that helps "tail wag" for the trailer... It's like 2 break pads that go from the trailer tongue to the receiver.

I will second the forget the friction bar with a 33' TT.

I have a Drawtite(Reese) WD with Dual Cam sway control. It takes some getting set up properly but once you do...it is the ticket. The setup issues are different for each TV and TT. Ball couplers on the TOP of a 6" frame present the MOST challenging setups due to "bind" issues. Hitch heads can "break" in a bind...spring bars must NOT come in contact with cams, frame, etc...all these must be checked out before hand...BUT once you get it dialed in...SWEEEEETTTT.....

The Equalizer (true brand name) hitch is also an excellent WD and sway control device. Many have GREAT things to say about these hitches as well.

Hensley is another fine one...but $$$...like $3000!!!

Brake controllers are important as well. The Prodigy, Jordan and Brakesmart provide the "smoothest" stops. Steer clear of "time-based" controllers and look for true proportional controllers that sense the deceleration of the TV and apply a "proportional" voltage to the electric brakes on the TT...each braking situation is different vs a "time-based" that just applies a profile based on time...stick with a proportional one and you will be happy.

Hope this helps.

Thumbs up Hensley too expensive? Maybe not.

True the Hensley can be expensive - but it's well worth it.

I have towed my 30' TT behind a 'burb for a lot of miles and nothing has ever set me to swaying! Passing or being passed by semis, 50 MPH gusting crosswind, radical lane changes, emergency braking - nothing! The Hensley Arrow is the best product of any kind I have ever bought – bar none. Does everything they claim and more. No other single investment can add so much to the plus side of the safety and control equation.

I haven't used any of the "dual cam" systems but my understanding is they're very much like my Hensley – but they are copies of the original.

Bought mine when they were $2500 – would have paid $4000 for it! Absolute control – all the time – without the problems of the “friction” based brake pad systems that cause more accidents then they avoid.

Last time it "saved my neck" I was towing up to Duluth at 75-80 MPH. Vehicle in front of me dropped a huge steel rod on the freeway. Didn't see it 'till it was going under and I made a radical steering adjustment to try and avoid it - kind of foolish in retrospect. Immediate blowout on my TT front left side tire (dual axle) as the rod “harpooned” the tire. But I couldn't tell for a quarter of a mile, until the blown tire started smoking from over heat! I pulled over as soon as I noticed the white smoke trail.

On many/most "anti-sway" systems that would have been the end of our trip, probably the end of my trailer, and quite possibly the end of someone’s life. There was heavy traffic and a loss of control would likely have killed someone at those speeds. Hensley turned and "Oh, dear God!" moment into an "Oh, bummer dude" moment.

BTW – you can get them used on e-bay for a good savings – like $2000 – all they usually need is a new paint job but that’s it.

Check out those listed under this search or just look on e-bay for “Hensley Arrow”

P.S. No I don’t work for Hensley or have any interest other than promoting a product that I have found to be beyond superior.
