Has anyone ever changed their seats in a late 80's bronco? I have an '89 Bronco with stock bucket seats. I recently became aware that they have no head rest, and since i'm 6 foot 4 inches tall, an accident would certainly be disasterous on my neck. I want to find some new seats that have a head rest, maybe from a newer Bronco or F-150 or aftermarket...whatever will fit. I don't want anything fancy or expencive since my off-road adventures will certainlky dirty them up in no time. Anybody have any suggestion? Thanks and have a great holiday weekend.
If you've got a welder you can install whatever you want. Here's a driver's seat from an '87 Audi 5k. It was certainly not bolt-on, but well worth the effort!
You can also try ebay, check under Ford truck seats, or leather seats. I purchased some leather navigator/expedition seats for my 1991 Bronco and found that 1, the new tracks were way to big for the old Bronco and 2, the seats do not fold forward for access to the back seat due to both those vehicles being 4 door. On 2 occasions I have found Lightning seats for sale on ebay but they want a small fortune for them, 750.00 the last time. The other problem I ran into was the arm rests. I wanted to find a seat with an arm rest due to the height of the console. I decided after much searching to just have mine reupholstered. I have a 1991 Silver Anniversary and they had a 1 year only run on the interior colors so they are hard to find. I was told that explorer seats are close matches but I can not verify it because I never tried but I do know they made a 2 door explorer so the seats should slide forward. Good luck.
I replaced my low back seats with Eddy Bauer seats out of a Aerostar. It was a simple swap. I used the Bronco tracks and bolted them to the Aerostars seats. the front holes line up and the back ones have to be tapped by the self tapping bolts that are stock fasteners for the seats. I even have lumbar support and no safety concerns about my insurance not paying off because of an unsafe alteration as the seats are a direct bolt in this way.
