So finally after owning my truck for 1 1/2 yrs and going down to the frame and then back up I finally got it running. It took a while to get the little things fixed on the engine wiring timing and such, but I got it fired up at 10:45 Sunday morning. I have a ways to go before it is road legal like glass, lights, tires, grill, box, and a whole list of other smaller things. But I did take it for a spin around the block in my neighborhood. My neighbors next door said I had a grin form ear to ear. I was also suprised with the umph that the 292 Y block has and that fact that it starts up quickly with no smoke ( never knew if it ran). Oh and should I expect the T-98 trans to be kinda noisy. not grinding or clanking just gear noise. Well thats was my weekend progress and I'll try to get some pics put up of me roasting the old junk 33x12.5 tires.
Next is installing the glass, its sitting on my bench ready to go in. that and figuring why my gauges aren't working. I bet the PO roasted them by running 12 V to them with out steping it to 6 V.
I'll bet your cheeks are sore by now from all that grinning. All I have to do is think back to my first trip around the block and I grin like a kid on X-mas morning (and yeah, one of the first things I did was smoke the tires too)
Bobby- yes my cheeks are sore from the grinning and now I really want to legally drive it around now on the roads even more, but being 215 miles away and only working ever other weekend on it it will take a while yet.
You crazy kid! You're supposed to leave all the black tire marks out in the street in front of the neighbors house, not in your own garage......LOL
Bobby
I know, but there is a dep. sheriff, I that I haven't met yet (just moved in) that lives 4 houses away and I did leave some out on the street, I dunno if that would be a good first meeting with him either. I figured I better not get too crazy with the only license on it a 1962 one from N. dakota (came with bumper) and the rest of the truck def not street legal. the video of the tires burning up is great too.
scottjo, truck looks great. I love the idea of breaking in the tires. Good start and thanks for the pics. can't wait to see it finished. Why do you have it parked so far away?
I have a house in Ames, Iowa where I'm going to college as a Mechanical Engineer and its in my garage there, but I'm working for 8 months as a Design Engineer for Altec in Saint Joseph, Missouri untill the end of July. I plan on getting it done by the start of the fall semester (end of August) and bring down a CJ-7 (currently sitting at my Dad's) and do a frame up build with a fiberglass tub before I graduate in the Spring '08 (2 semesters of work time....I'll be busy)
Damn that's a nice job for the time ya get to spend on it. A chrome shop to do the grill, bumpers and running bord would be sweet. But thats just me. Mama said she too luvs the color and wants me to paint her SUV now. Thanks alot. HAAAA
should I expect the T-98 trans to be kinda noisy. not grinding or clanking just gear noise.
T-98 cool tranny,
Granny 4-speeds do make some gear noise, even when new. it's hard to say whats normal without hearing it. I call it a tractor tranny sound, those gears are pretty big, and they growl.
It is coming along good. I remember laying a few black marks way back when.
At first I couldn't believe that you were smoking them in the garage lol. Oh well they make new rubber every day.
Congrats on getting it running.
Don
Scottjo,
What color of blue is that on your truck. I'm going back blue on my truck but I don't want the original blue on it. I like the color of yours. What shade of blue is it. Thanks Scott
