Hi guys! I've been checkin the site out for a while now and finally decided to join. I got a question. I've got a 67 F-100, 4x4, 352, NP435 4 speed, 3.50 gears. I just put some Flowtech headers on over Christmas. It has a true dual exhaust too. Other than that she's pretty much stock. I was wondering what should be my focus here. I've got about 600 bucks right now. But some of that would have to cover install cause i'm not exactly a mechanic. I want to make it a 4 bbl but dont whether to use a 390 intake from a junk yard for a $100 or get an edelbrock performer390 for $240. Either way i think I'm going to go with an edelbrock 600cfm man choke carb. Any imput guys?
The stock cast-iron manifold weights around 75 pounds - the aluminum manifold will be half of that. If you have all your work done professionally, you will not strain your back changing out the manifold. I have pulled and installed the cast-iron intakes both on an engine stand and in the vehicle - it can be done, but most people hate it. On your 352 you probably will not gain enough power to justify the extra expense of a performer, but someday you may want to upgrade to a 390 and/or go to a hotter setup where the performer would be desirable.
If you are going to keep the truck long-term, go for the performer.

Reason: add welcome
Performance wise, you wont gain anything going Performer over standard iron 4 barrel. I'd go with the stock 4 barrel intake and a Holley 600cfm vacuum secondary carb.
Be careful about "professionally installed." Most mechanics anymore dont have the first clue when it comes to these old FE's. Find the gray haired old man that has been in the business for years and worked on these things when they were new, if you can.
I'm almost 18 and this is/was my first vehicle. I also have a 4x4 toyota pickup. I know what your thinking, but hey its good on gas. I do plan on keeping this truck for the rest of my life...... hopefully, and do a complete resto probably after college. i got a good mechnic who knows what he's doing. He has done work for me and my grandpa in the past. What about a new cam and timing set? I can already smoke my 31 inch all-terrains but I need more low end.
I thought about that but the 3.50's are pretty good. besides that I only get 8 mpg. i used to have more take off but I think my 2 bbl carb is out of tune. I cant get it to run right. If i'm going at a 2-3 mph roll and hammer it, it hesitates for a second or two then takes off. I also want it to be faster after my shifts. Its granny geared. I have good high end but after I shift theres not as much go.
Another question. If i get the 390 intake which carb should i get? edelbrock? holley? I hear tons of guys who swear by holley, but i've also heard they are gas guzzlers. Granted 8 mpg isnt great but its better than 4!
I would go eddy's all the way....very cheap rebuild kit's, very easy and idiot proof to rebuild and very very good lookin on yer 390....i have 2 eddy's myself and have rebuilt both. holly is very complex to rebuild and lots and lots of parts....eddy on the other hand not so many parts and you still get the performance...just my 2 cents...welcome to the forums.
All AFB style carbs should only be used as paper weights!!
I can rebuild a Holley in my sleep..and there a MUCH better performer than any AFB style carb out there!!
And your 352 probably has a higher CR than the 360's and the Truck 390's of that era..I would just go ahead and spring for the Aluminum Intake..Look around for a used holley Dominator (intake)..They work great..and can still be had for about $100 used...Go with a 600/650cfm holley and call it good until your ready to make some seriuos HP...JMO
What sort of power increase should I expect with the new carb and intake? Besides ebay, where is a good place to look for the dominator intake you speak of? Also, what are the part numbers for the holley intake and carb? Plus I was at a junk yard last week and the guy told me never to put ab aluminum intake on our FE's. He said it will shrink and warp and that I would be better off to go with a cast one off a 390. Of course then he said he had one for a $100. Go figure!

Iron 390 intake for $100? Egads. Go find yourself a junkyard.
Holleys hard to rebuild? Not. Once you get 'em figured out, they're quite simple. It sounds like you have an accelerator pump issue.
You probably need to get that carburetor fixed and custom tune the timing, for better mileage. My old 360 with 3.50 gears and a C6 transmission in an F100 used to get 15mpg on the highway.
Sorry but what is Egads? 15 mpg? You probably had a 2wd didnt you. I have a 4wd so it is heavier than hell! Ya I really dont care about my existing carb as I plan to put the new intake and carb on over Spring Break.
Oh thanks. Ya when I bought the truck I was getting 12-13mpg. But it has steadily declined over the past 3 years. Now it seems like no matter where I drive it takes at least a 1/4 tank. So whatis a going price for a junk yard 390 intake?
If you are a scroungy lookin gray haired old fart, $25 to $50 range. It also depends on your area.
We have a number of self-serve yards here. My favorite place to shop for carbs is the core bin. I found a few of those gawd-awfull Holley carbs there @ $20 each. The last one is so clean (new) I have to force myself to go through it. Yessir, don't rebuild those Holleys, give them to me. LOL Used parts are easy to come by also.
