Surging Question
I've read quite a few post about trucks surging at a stop or when driving. It is my understanding that surging can happen because of the vanes sticking in the turbo or a coked up EGR valve (correct me if I'm wrong). Here's my question, is surging something you feel, or is it something you can hear from under the hood? If so, can somebody explain to me how you can tell if your truck is doing this? This may be a dumb question but I'm trying to learn about my beast and the problems that could possible arise someday.

You have a very good question - don't worry about it.
Surging can be both - feeling it and/or hear the motor pick up or slow down in rpm speed. It is just someting you will notice by the seat of your pants. Sometimes you can see the rpm's on the tack go up and down at idle.

Define your surging tho.. Because to many it can be several things.. Transmission surging (through gears) is mainly EGR coked up.. But the stop surging, which I feel every now and then is suppose to do with the brake system.. If you don't hold the brake down enough the truck will bounce like a surge but if I push the pedal down more it stops..
I for once experience both of them.. Tranny surged bad and they cleaned the EGR out and I was good.. The sitting at a light surge I get every now and then.. Nothing major..

First off, thanks for the replies. I have not had the surging problem yet but the question has been on my mind for a while. Just wondering what this meant from other posts I've read.
