A/C Help What is this

I have an 2001 F150 supercrew with the 4.6L. Last summer my ac wasn't working so I added two can's of R134. It then worked fine all summer long. Just the other day I turned it on and nothing no cool air. So just like last summer I added one can it worked fine for about two or three hours. Then nothing So I then added one more can two beable to check for leaks. I then found one so i got a gasket kit and changed it. That was't big enough. I then started looking around on the compresser and found one there. Its coming out of an copper or brass fitting on the hose. What is this fitting it has a hole in the center and a few numbers on it. I then took it out and changed the gasket and when I rechraged it i could see the oil coming out of the center of the fitting. What does that mean. Thanks

It means you need either a digital camera so we know what the heck you're referring to or you need to take it to a shop for repair.....

I am not positive, but that copper or brass fitting is on the discharge side of that manifold so my guess would be the overpressure relief. I would hang guages on that system and see what your head pressure is. You may be able to replace just that fitting. PLEASE do not add stop leak because it stops everything else up as well as your leak. Also be careful just adding refrigerant without any idea of how much is in there. system charge is very critical on newer systems and you don't want overcharge and allow liquid to return to the pump. Can't compress liquid.

That is the pressure relief valve base part number 19D644. You'll have to go by your Ford parts store to get the rest of the part number and to pick one up.

That valve is intended to relieve when the manifold pressure hits excessive levels. Either your valve has failed or your have sky-high pressure coming out of the compressor (550-600 psi).

Get a gauge on the high side and see what you have.
