WW2 buff

I've always been kinda into the WW2 history, espically the airforce and the large Lancaster and B17 bombers. This ebay item is extremely tempting. As close to owning a bomber I'll get.

Well pennsylvania is kinda between Buffal/New York. I am planning on bringing my 1957 to Ontario this year, but don't think it could haul a firetruck, but then it is geared pretty low........... Ah it could never do it not for that distance. that firetruck is probably pretty heavy.

It is a long ways and does look fairly heavy. Looks like a bit of rust, to be sure there`s more than what meets the eye at first.
You`d need a diesel/5 speed in the 57 for this distance and weight.

What exactly makes this IHC military? Looks like an ordinary fire truck to me. US Military fire trucks were not red. The US Army vehicles were Olive Drab, the US Navy/USMC vehicles were a light gray colour (Sea-something-I forget). There was no official USAF till after WWII. It was known first as the Army Flying Service, next as the Army Air Corps, and in 1942 and later, the Army Air Force.

If this was military, it would have had government mandated dash plates with instructions on how what works. These "civilian" trucks (and that's most likely what it was), ended production on or about February 15th, 1942. With one exception (Taxis), all production of vehicles henceforth would be for the war effort till late 1944.

I'd like to know what colour this "cornbinder" was originally. That red paint looks like a old respray to me. This was prolly a civilian airport crash truck.

FYI: The last civilian vehicle produced by Ford Motor Company, was a 1942 Mercury Fordor sedan. (Fordor was how Ford refered to 4 doors, 2 doors were Tudors...[a perfect vehicle for Stuarts!])

That would be too much of a challenge for me, sitting on the interstate at 42.5 mph down hill listening to the rods knocking and hoping the oil pressure shows up soon.
