351m valve rattle while excelerating

351m valve rattle while excelerating
When I step on the gas pedal I can here a rattle and was wandering if the valves can be tightend or is it a lubercation problem? I dont want to lose my baby ,so any suggestions would be great on what to do.
1978 &1/2 f 150 ranger -explorer 351m c6 trany .

are you sure it is a valve tick?it could be pre-ignition or what some people call pinging.this is common.have you ever tried a higher octane gas?there could be some carbon build up in the combustion chambers.or you could just have a stuck egr valve.check the plate under the carb(that is the egr).it should have a vaccume line comeing off of it,check the line for any leaks.check your timeing also.also check if the engine is running hotter than usual.
