this is the first one I ever had. I drove this truck for 2yrs with an eventual 400hp. but only had 235 15s or 31 10.5s. It didnt take long with the 429 to realize I needed a little more tire. Now, agressive 33 11.5s. Case always worked great. how much will the 208 handle? it seems kinda small to be real heavy duty, maybe upgrade the guts? I really like this case, its smoothe never jumped out of gear and never fought me. Id put some money in it if itll work for 450hp 550ft.lbs.
Put all of the money in it you want, it will still be an aluminum chain driven case.
Instead of spending time, and money in the 208, why not just find a 205? Eventually you will end up with one if you are making those hp numbers.
i admit i thought the 208 was a weak case. however i ran mine for a good year, maybe year and a half and i beat the living hell out of it! 460, heavy foot, 39" iroks, neutral drops, rear end hopping all around, welded front and rear.... shoot the case even had a crack in it for the longest time! and i think thats what finally went.. i think if the crack had not been there it'd still be on one piece!
look at all the powerstrokes running chips and injectors with stock 1356 t-cases (aluminum/mag) and they hold up!
i think depening on what you are plannin on doing with the truck the 208 will hold up. what i'd do if i were you is run the 208 but go ahead and find a good 205 and re-seal it. that way you already have it so if the 208 ever lets go you already have the parts, just have to put it in! however i kinda doubt you will have any problems!
I have an extra 205. suposed to be good, never had it hooked up, needs to go in the HiBoy...I just needed to hear the 208 would take it if you know how to drive...but what about better than stock guts? Jeep guys run em, right? Ther has to be an aftermarket....?
I'm sure the're available, but for what you put into doing all that to a 208, you'll still have a chain driven aluminum cased t case. Take some of that dough, use the 205, twinstick and rebuild it, give it a pretty shiny paint job, seal it and through it in and forget about it.
O.K. as soon as the 208 breaks, Ill try it. But damn that 208 is smooth...400hp middle of the puddle, jamin, that thing has never let me down, its in and out flawless, and I can get LO-HI, on a roll...try that with a 205.GGGRRRRRPOPP!! GGRRRRCLUNK! rrrrRrRRRR! ya know?
I want to keep everything spinning so harde there aint no traction unless you want it. just want to see this case survive. I like useing it.
Oh yeah, there aint nothin that makes sense at some point I wont try!
If you dont get stuck, youre not trying.
I want it to walk on water(nose heavy as it may be)

I ran a 208 case in my truck with a mild 390 and it lasted a few trips. Its leaking at the seals, and has a hairline crack in it. It sure does shift smooth and I love its low range.
