hey everyone im new here and i was wondering if someone could help, i have a 2003 supercrew with 5.4, when it warms up outside a little i seem to have a problem starting it, turns over about five or six seconds before it fires, when it was cold out didnt seem to be a problem but now in the mid forties and seems to act up and it doesnt do it all the time any help would be appreciated.
I'm just guessing but it could be your fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator going bad. This would cause the slow start due to lack of fuel in the lines. Check the fuel pressure on the line.
Try changing your fuel filter. There was a guy on the nloc.net that couldn't get his truck to start at 6k-8k miles and it was his fuel filter plugged. When the filter gets plugged it is very difficult for the pump to build pressure quickly. Hot weather could make it worse because the unpressurized fuel in the line vaporizes more easily.
probably the fuel pressure regulator, its located on the fuel rail and it has a vacuum line attatched to it, pull off the vacuum line and watch it for 5 mins, if fuel drips out the regulator is bad. it takes about 2 mins to replace. If no fuel drips out, i would be interested in a fuel filter... which should be done every 30K anyway, or some other issue.
It could be a sticking IAC. Try holding the gas pedal down just a little when you try to start it. If it starts better, replace the IAC. Idle Air Control valve.
