Radiator

Okay guys here's the deal. I ordered the radiator for the 67 because that is as far back as any place could go around here. The core sizes are the same. my problem is that the wings (thats what i call them) that hold the radiator to the suport wont reach the suport. they about 2 inches to short. So this is what i was thinkin. Could I take the radiator to a radiator shop and have them change out the wings? or could i cut the wings where they bend ya know and make them flat and bolt them on to the wings taht are on the new radiator and use them as extentions.
GIve me some ideas guys.

Thaks
Matt

Is the radiator itself the same size as the original? Or, Are the mounting flanges just smaller?

Not sure, sounds like short the thickness of the radiator. There are 2 type radiator flange mounts, front and rear. Learned the hard way in purchasing radiator from wrecking yard. Must have taken 2-3 trips before finding correct radiator that matched the support. Fortunately, wrecking yard let me exhange radiators until found the correct one. Have two 65 F100's and each has different type flange mount and radiator support. Don't know if engine size is factor, 1 had a 6 cyl. (standard cab) where radiator inserted into channel in the radiator support, and the other w/ V8 (custom cab) has a rear flange mount. Interchange manual only goes to 79 and indicates radiators interchangeable depending upon size. If unable to exchange, radiator shop may be able to mix and match new with original.

well, i dont kow if this will help ya but i had to put in a new radiator in my 1064 ford f100 and i ened up using a rad out of a 1960 ford f100. same engine but it was narrower so i just took some semi bumper brakcets(ya prolly overkill) and made brackets for both sides. it looks ok. But it fit the bill till i get a correct radiator for it.

There are 6 different radiators for 1964 F100's; and 10 for 1967 F100's. The radiator core supports are different too.

It's hard to give measurements when y'all don't give enough information like the engine size, transmission type, 2WD or 4WD, etc. Without this info, it's impossible to answer your questions.

The parts books list length, width and heighth for the radiators...all the radiators from 1948 thru 1989.

I just pulled a radiator out of a 2 wheel drive F100 240 I6. The radiator had an "additional" wing bolted to I believe the drivers side. With this added it fit perfectly. Not sure if it was original but worked great in my buddies truck for 5 years.

The radiator that I pulled out of the truck had wide wings on both sides. And the ones on the new radiator leave about 2 inches on both sides to reach the support. We were thinking of makin wing extentions for both sides. What do you all think.

THe old radiator had numbers and letters on the top but No one at the part stores could figure out if they were part numbers or not.
THanks
Matt

If the radiator had a large enough capacity to provide adequate cooling making "wings" to fit would seem to be an easy fix. It just seems that if there was that much difference the one you have might not keep the engine to hot. Just a thought.

The one that came out had a core size of 18 tall 24 1/4 wide and 1 1/4 deep. that just the core size. the wings are about 3 to 3 1/2 inches wide.
the new one I have has the same core size. I even measured when it got here. So I think that we will just make wings for it. Any suggestions on what to make them out of?

Wonder if radiator shop would be able to swap mounts at a reasonable price.
