Oils and lubes.

I was just wondering what everyone uses for all of your fluids.

-Engine Oil
-Differential lubes
-Transfer case

What Brands and weights have y'all found to be the most effective.

Chevron Delo 15W-40 in the 5.0 engine (Motorcraft filter)

Valvoline Dexron/Mercon ATF in the transfer case

Valvoline 80W-90 in the axles

Will probabliy switch to Mobil One or Red Line synthetic fluids in the gear cases next time, but stay with the Delo in the engine.

I was just curious why do y'all use the heavier weight engine oils? I thought that ford had recomended that people use 5W-30 in their engines and you guys are using 15 and 20? I am just wondering which is best.

I live in west-central Florida and it gets hotter than #%#@ and I run the A/C all the time Engine Oil was suppose to read 20w-50 not 20w-5. I have always had good luck with the thicker oils here in Florida.

I also run Chevron Delo 15/40 with Motorcraft filter.

I run Delo because that is what we run in the stuff on the farm and it hasn't hurt as I have 322,000 miles on my 300-6.

I would use the 5W-20 Motorcraft oil in a new truck under warranty.

I use Delo 15W-40 now for several reasons:

It never gets real cold here, +20F is as cold as we usually see, but it does get over 100F in the desert.

My engine is old and leaks a little, 5W-anything would leak more.

15W-40 grade is called for in my other car (BMW) so I only need to buy one type of oil.

Most important, Delo is diesel-rated which means that it has more detergent, acid neutralizing and anti-wear additives.

I also run 15w-40 in my 88 302 and have done so for about the last four years with good results. I recently had my engine apart due to a bad valve but all the components looked good and the heads needed very little work. The engine has about 50-60,000 on the rebuild so I think I'll stick with the 15w-40.

I use Quaker State Heavy Duty 4x4 Synthetic Blend 10W-30. I use either Synthetic Blend or Pure Synthetic religiously, never any conventional or regular oils. Synthetic Blends and Pure Synthetic is all that another Bronco owner I know used and his engine was over 300k before he sold it.

Oils and lubes.

I'm using Valvoline synthetic gear lube in the front and rear diffs, t-case, and 4-speed of my '85..... really a huge difference in sub-zero weather. In the 302, I run Valvoline All-Climate (conventional oil) 5W30 in winter, and 10W40 in the summer. For those of you running full or semi-synthetic oil in your engines, what sort of problems (if any) have you experienced with leakage? I'd like to go full synthetic with my rebuild, but it's hard enough to keep a Ford engine from leaking conventional oil. I'm shying away for this reason, as it's my understanding that synthetics will find their way past seals easier. I can believe this, as the two seals I haven't replaced on my front diff started leaking shortly after switching over. Just wondering if this had been an issue for anyone.....

Oils and lubes.

I switched to synthetic oil Castrol Synthec 5w-30 a couple of months ago after using just straight up 10w-30 for ever. now I am kind of wondering if the sudden change caused my major malfunction with my oil pump. But the truck seemed to do better and run cleaner with no leaks with the syntheic. So I am gonna keep using it with my new oil pump but I am sure the dealer didn't use synthetic when they put the oil pan back in though. Any ways I like the syntheic but I need to see how the 5w is gonna do this summer in the Alabama heat.

Good luck with it. I've heard nothing but good reports from those running synthetic from an operational standpoint. And, as a testimony, we switched to full synthetic on three of our diesels at work that must crank and run at subzero temps in the winter months. It made a huge difference, and reliability (getting them cranked and running) went to near 100%. One has a touch of leakage, but it's older and leaked conventional oil, anyway. I guess if I use quality gaskets and seals in the rebuild (which goes without saying), I can't be any worse off than anyone else. I'll also be putting in mechanical oil pressure and temperature gauges, so the results should be interesting.

Oils and lubes.

I only use amsoil products. They have been around a long time and everybody here in cold *** montana runs the stuff in everything they own, from lawn mowers to a big F-550; anybody who tries it swears by it, including myself. I have a jeep cherokee with 165,000 on it and it still runs with new 4.0's, I can't see that engine giving up anytime soon, I always use amsoil filters and lubes in it. I plan to use the stuff in the bronco once i get it running; I bought it from a guy in zona who ran 15w40 rotella, he swore by that stuff- it sure is a lot cheaper than the amsoil...

The Question I have is that with all the strain and pressure we put on our engines, it seems that oil is gonna leak a little whether you notice it or not, right? I have not really noticed leakage after I change oil. After soo much heat over time, the oil filters start puffing out and warping. I am talking about Texas Heat and I really favor synthetic because of the time between oil changes.
