Replacing Rear Main Seal
Replacing Rear Main Seal
So I crawled under the truck today to see what I could see, and I found that my rear main seal is broken and letting oil through....Yes I am sure its the rear main, only coming from the center of the engine, where the rear main is. Luckily I guess I caught it early enough to tell where its coming from. Anyways, it's a 1994 351W, and I'm not entirely sure.......Do I have to pull the pan to replace this, or can I just drop the tranny and work on it from that side?
Thanks
Thanks
I have heard that you can either pull the engine or drop the tranny. My rear main leaks too, although VERY slowly. I think I'm going to wait til my auto tranny needs a rebuild to replace it. Heard about a guy that will convert my E4OD to a 5 speed (yes, the entire kit and kabootle, will be drivable right off his lot) for about the same price as a rebuild, might go that route
Good luck with the rear main, let me know how it goes.

If the seal is leaking the oil will come down the inside of the Converter/Flywheel Housing.
