HELP, trailer battery charge not working

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Jun-02 AT 05:11 PM (EST)]Howdy everyone. I have a 1995 Bronco that came from the factory with the Tow package. I finally got my travel trailer after all theses years. My new trailer had the exact same plug for the lights etc, as the one that came stock on my bronco, so I didn't have to change or alter the stock plug on the bronco.

Everything works, the light, electric brakes, trun signals but it will not charge the battery in the trailer. Looking through the owners manual, it shows the fuse and notes that this plug is made to chage the batteries in a trailer. So I took a volt meter and tried all the posts in the stock ford plug. There are 7 of them. One has a minus sign and one a plus sign, the rest are for lights etc. Every pin shows voltage except the plug marked with a +. So this is obviously why the trailer battery is not being charged. I checked the fuse again and all are good. I was on a trailer towing forum and someone said that he needed to purchased some type of relay on his new 2002 F-150 to make this feature operate.

Sorry for being so long, but I am hoping someone will know what I am talking about.

Right next to the fuse box under the hood, is aother box that has plugs for 3 relays and a diode. There is one diode and one relay already installed but two of the other plugs are empty.

I went to the ford dealer but they we no help at all! They wanted to sell me two more relays to TRY. They had no idea if this was the problem or not.

Can anyone help? Please email me directly at Frankjake(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
Thanks in advance
Frank

Sounds like you need to get ahold of a wiring diagram for your year/model and trace it backwards from the harness/plug in the rear to find where the 12 V + comes from. Then you can use your volt meter to find the 'missing link' in your wiring - or at lease narrow down the search.

Hey Frank,
I don't know whether this diagram will help at all.
It is the STANDARD trailer 6 pin hookup.
You don't have to buy a pigtail from ford as they are available fronm the aftermarket for a lot less.
I saw one on sale at Ford last week though.

If I remember right, there is seperate fuse block with C/B's located under the hood JUST FOR Trailer pulling.

Here's the diagram.
