First off this sounds like water and or contamination in fuel from the station. Being you went 1/4 mile and everything went bad.

yah thats what i thought at first but it does the same on my front tank, that wasnt filled at the station. Also living in somewhat of a small town i would figure that if there was bad diesel at the local wal mart we would hear about it. just remembered...my truck had been sitting a long time before I went and filled it up but it only had abut a 1/8 of a tank. we had a bad freeze with ice and stuff and i was wondering if the rapid change from hot weather to cold weather would put a significantly large ammount of condensation in the tank. I drained the water fuesl seperator but im sure if there was a lot of moisture it could need a full draining right?

Your idea has merit but the water/contamination is already past the fuel switch located near the rear of the truck. So the whole line from the back to the front plus filter is either full of water or contaminates. You could have a water leak into the tank around the fill area on the top (rusted etc) or a hose that has cracked some from the filler.

Another thought... The tank you are having problems with when you pulled out of the station. Was this the same tank you was using when you pulled into the station? If it was and the only thing different is you added fuel. Bad fuel.
