Okay all the mathemeticians out there. I have a question that's been bugging me for a while. I have a bumper pull travel trailer. I currently have the 3.73 gears in my 03 with a 5.4L Crew Cab. I've seen the tow ratings from Ford and Trailer Life and even this forum. They all have tow ratings for my truck with either a 3.73 or 4.10 gear (7200 or 8900 in a nutshell). But I have a 4.30 that I will be putting in soon. I may or may not be upgrading trailers soon (if my wife has her way...which she often does, I won't be), but am just curious what the tow rating would be with the upgrade to the 4.30. The trailer I currently tow is nowhere near busting any tow ratings, current or future, but I just want it to tow better, and I got a heck of a good deal on the entire rear 4.30 rear end.
(assuming) Manual Tranny:
Your setup is 7200 with 3.73
Your setup with 4.10 would be 8800
A difference of 1600 lbs.
Ok...looking at the V10
Your setup with 3.73 is 10100
Your setup with 4.30 is 12500
A difference of 2400
So...I would say that you could increase (not legally mind you) your current 7200 to a new 9600 lbs. This being said because the only difference on the V10 numbers is the gears. All other factors are equal.
