I have a '95 7.3L that runs very, very rough unless it's warmed up & you're hard on it. I just got the AutoEnginuity w/Ford package and when I hook to this truck, it only lets me choose between "Generic Powertrain" and "Enhanced Powertrain" for the systems. If I choose Enhanced, it doesn't give me any sensors. If I choose Generic, I get a few dozen sensors; but when I monitor them with the motor running, the only one that seems to read correctly is the engine RPM. Throttle pedal reads 99%, Intake temp reads -40, Fuel pressure reads 110, Coolant temp reads 500.
Is this a bad PCM or a bunch of bad sensors? The RPMs tracking correctly is the only hint that the PCM might be OK. If the PCM is bad, is it time for a flash to fix it or a whole new unit? Should the "Enhanced Powertrain" system be showing me sensors as it does on my '99 7.3L?
Thanks in advance for your time - any help would be appreciated!!!
well I don't know anything about the auto enginuity other than I want one but I doubt your PCM is bad. is there a check engine light on? do you have a chip? oil level good? filter changed recently? Has this problem just started?
i would double check your connection to you truck and hopefully somebody familiar with AE will be along soon
No chip or check engine light. Oil is fresh, all fuses are good. Cleaned the PCM connector after killing power to it. I'm not sure how long it's been this bad. I just got it as the previous owner gave up on fixing it.
Battery voltage is low enough that I have to jump start it to get it to run. Once running, I connect the AE setup and it shows no codes at all.
For anyone who knows PCMs, is it possible for one to display these symptoms? IS it time for a new one or just a flash?

These engines need a lot of voltage to operate correctly, even if the charging system is working OK. The IDM produces 110V DC to fire the injectors. You might need to charge the batteries and have them load tested. Clean and repair all the battrery and starter connections including the grounds, there are many. BAd grounds may cause some of the symptoms you described IMO.
