It really depends on how much you want to spend. I've got the Banks Power Pack in mine and I absolutely love it. No matter what you go with though I would reccomend the Banks Trans Command; it makes the shifting alot snappier, and it's supposed to really help prolong the tranny. Got any other Q's about Banks let me know.
The BEST power package for the buck? Easy buy a hand held programmer. Any one you seem cool with. I would stay away from hypertech myself. Superchips, diablo, or SCT are great products. I had a superchips tuner and was very happy with it. It cost me $360 and its plug and play fetures are great. 5 minutes and your done. The most power you can buy. And it will tune the tranny also. I have the Banks powerpack also. I do not have the Banks Ottmind chip or the trans command. The chips cost $400 and the trans command is $315. The powerpack was $1500 and few year back. Over $2200 for great poewr gains and noticable power. A tuner is $400 give or take and get alot of the same for $1800 less.
I would have only done the programmer instead of the exhaust setup if I have to do it over again.
Plus if you dont like the progammer, you can reset you truck to stock tune and all gone. Cant do that with the exhaust!
Let's not forget that the V-10 puts out an awful lot of power and torque right from the factory. Personally I don't want to mess around with a good thing.
How did it help with mpg ? and thanks for the advise. Know of any use but new proggramms out there that are not destored ?
It does help with MPG with the 93 octane tune. But the extra coat of the fuel negates any benefit. There is not much you can add to the truck to get better MPG. That is all in your right foot.
Not sure what you are asking in the second question?
When you put your foot in it for the first time you will forget this MPG talk because of the monster, obnoxious BSEG that will be on your face. These trucks are really something else!! I love mine.... take it over anything else, any day.
Let's not forget that the V-10 puts out an awful lot of power and torque right from the factory.
It's turned out that that statement is quite true...
Overall, whatever way the V10 came from the factory, whether it be the "low power" '97-99 version, the '00-'04 "PI" version, or the '05-up 3-valver, most performance mods don't yield a lot of power from anywhere.
Sure, there are advantages to intake systems, exhaust, and headers, but we've heard that it either reduces the low-end torque, or is only does anything way above 4500RPM. Or, exhaust-wise, sounds like a nest of hornets. Angry ones.
Most people who have a tuner say that modifying tranny shift points is the best part of it - which tells you something
I put a Superchips in my '96 t-bird 4.6L, and it did work. Noticable throttle improvement, and even better MPGs, by 1 or 2. But only with 93 octane. And it didn't make up for the higher price.
I'm not saying don't get a tuner, or anything else. I just don't want to see you back here complaining that you wasted your money
The V10 isn't like a diesel where plugging in a tuner will get you boatloads of more power. Improvement, yes. Big? Not really, at least according to what I've read here...
