How to get rid of cruise control?

I have a 88 1/2 ton w/ 302 AOD and I would like to do away with the cruise control system to free up some much needed room + I never use it anyways.

As far as I can tell, I need to undo the cable at the throttle body, unplug the electrical connector @ the CC unit and undo + block off the vacuum source going to the CC unit.

Am I missing anything??

Any potential problems with doing this??

Can I have the stuff you don't want, cause mine don't work on my 87 & I would use it all the time if it worked. Sounds like that is all you have to do, besides putting it in a box & letting me know how much to send for the shipping. LOL. There should be know problems eliminating it cause I'll bet 85% of them are broken anyways. LOL.

If you want it it's yours. The rig has been down for restoration since the day I got it which is a couple of years and thus I have never even tried to use it...so I can't say for sure if it works, but if you want it it's yours.

My only concern is leaving all this stuff disconected. I am not sure if the computer or the motor will care if the vacuum is disconnected and blocked off and if the electrical connector is not hooked up. This is something I am not sure about.

Your motor wont know the diff. Think about it, when not in use the electrical connection is just sitting there doing nothing. Theres no signal that it sends back to the ecm that says hey computer i'm not working right now. Same with the vacuum. plugging it makes no diff to the motor. Leaving it unplugged, now that motor may groan a little. LOL. What about the turn signal stalk then. If you are restoring the truck then you probably want one without the cc stuff on it

The computer gets vehicle speed information from the cruise control. When you take it off, there will be two plugs that look the same hanging below the vacuum servo. One comes from the VSS in the transmission, and the other goes into the computer harness with the cruise control in between. Just take the cruise out of the middle and plug the two together.

I only saw one plug. I have yet to remove the CC unit, so I very well could have missed the other.

So what you are saying is the VSS in the trans. tells the computor how fast the vehicle is traveling via the cruise control. One can remove the cruise control and get the necessary info. from the VSS directly and the computor will not know the difference?

Will the 2 plugs easily mate up...as in one is male, the other female and they only go together one way or will I have to come up with my own method of connecting the 2 plugs?

There should be one large plug on the back of the cruise control vacuum servo, then there should be two sets of two wires hanging down from there somewhere towards the fender liner/splash shield thing. All you have to do is unplug the two connectors, then plug the two connectors on the truck side into each other. The wiring is set up to work with trucks with and without cruise control, so all you have to do is unplug and plug back in without cruise in the middle. I would take a picture but I don't have a digital camera anymore. The wires I'm talking about are red and green on my 87...
