Sssslllooowwww downshifts.
It downshifts to 3rd, waits second or two then shifts to 2nd.
Lame... really
How do I get the thing to skip 3rd and go directly to 2nd? Besides manually doing it?
It has always done this so it's not anything new. I finally ticked me off enough today to post up about it.
IIRC you have the 5R110 TorqShift in the Ex also
I got so used to doing this that now it is normal----
The lag is the need for the system to UNLOCK the torque converter first... You can force this to happen faster two was--- tap the brake pedal... (kills cruise control)
Or my way----Stab the stem mounted button and enter Tow/Haul mode... I almost always push the button now as part of the events deciding if there is room to pass and by the time I dump the left turn signal lever down the motor and trany are ready for whatever my foot demands
Like I said it is completely normal now, in fact, it will be miles later when scanning the instruments, my eyes notice I did not cancel Tow Haul mode
Remember how I am the one who disputes the LAG phenomena? I know it is there, but I learned while training myself max acceleration, that the fire by wire throttle does not like very fast micro second WOT foot feed rates...
This is because of the trippple redundancy checks it MUST go through to decide that it is NOT a command link loss..... ( Ford safety feature required by law)
I found that I can beat the system by a more measured (but still fairly fast) foot feed up to WOT.... There is a foot feed rate of motion that the computer will not enter "fault detection mode" ----But if you are too fast with the foot, you will induce a 90~120 millisecond test loop... wink wink
But then I take the bronco for a spin and the throttle gets stuck or it chokes out because it doesn't get the right air/fuel mixture and I think 'hmm...'

To tell you the truth. When I need to pass on the highway, I let off and nail it. I never downshift twice. Usually It roars to about 4500 rpm and higher or until the serpentine belts squeels and then I let off.
I miss the superchips tiner I had in it for those reason. I really liked that thing. Problem was when gas was 3.50 a gallon and I needed super at 3.75 I hurt too much. Plus the PITA of Massachusetts state inspections. Those things are a NO NO!

Darn I thought you were on the torqshift... my bad
Did you do any of the valve mods yet for the 4R100?
If not it is something to look into... when I got my "bullet proof" trans back from Brian (BTS) it was a completely different trans
upping the line pressure slightly and the sonex valve (there are other options) can make a LOT of difference over the stock shift strategy and feel
And for what it is worth my stem mounted button technique is a hold over form the 4R100 days where I would push it to drop OUT of OD climbing a hill... it became natural also to do this when passing large trucks up long mountain passes... dropping out of OD unlocks the TQ and the down shift for passing is not delayed
