assuming it has 3.73 or 4.10's you could expect around 11 city...my dad has a 350 crew cab dually and he gets around 10 and sometimes single digits because he drives it like he stole it
Like has been said many times before, with 10ers you have to drive like your left one is under the gas peddle. If you drive like you just stole it your mileage will surely suffer. If you drive easy you can expect better. 8-10 if it's stolen, 12-16 if you just take it easy.
On 285's w/ 4.30 gears, I averaged 12.3 mpg from May 06-Dec 06. This was a mix of rural country driving and the occasional highway trip. In that time, I broke 13 once. Saw as low as 10.8. I drive it "reasonably". I putt around most of the time but I'm not afraid to lean on it if the situation calls....I rarely tow so that wasn't a factor.
We would have to ask what year truck it is before we start guessing fuel mileage..we dont even know if its a 2V or 3V...what trans? and of course the gear ratio.
Mine is a 2003, V-10 Crew Cab with the short bed and I am averaging about 9 MPG's all around. Worse in the winter with the cold but not too bad on the highways.
My 06 does ok...13-14 most of the time back and forth to work...9-10 towing a 5th wheel, mostly on level ground.
I talked to a guy last night with a 4.6L in an Expedition...he gets 14-15. His wife has an explorer that get 15-16....most folks with truck and suvs get mpg in the low to mid teens.
The V10 is at the lower end with the Chevy (sorry) 8.0L ....the only thing worse is the Hemi in a 3/4...I know 2 guys that have them and they consistently complain about 10-11 highway NOT towing....they won't talk about that.
Realistically, the Super duty is 6-7000 pounds depending on 4x2 or 4x4, SRW or Dually....any engine in that big of a vehicle is not going to get great mpg...eventhe 5.4 L superduty gets about the same (or close) to the V10...the power difference is tremendous..
Towing 8 - 9
I tried to go easy and found that the most I could get was about .5 mpg more. So I drive not like it was stolen but like i borrowed it from someone I was mad at.
