non computerized cummins

I remember reading somewhere here previously that its real easy to turn up some horsepower on the older non computerized cummins. If anybody knows could you let me know cuz my old man has a 93 dodge with the cummins turbo and it freakin slow.
I know i know boooo to the dodge, dont worry he hates dodge too but he couldnt resist the reliability of the older cummins engines which is fair enough.

Be sure to read the caution on EGT's.

Wow, Pop those diagrams are EXACTLY like the VW pumps that I worked on when they were around. The only difference is two more cylinders!
I turned up my Dasher ( that had a Quantum TD in it.) until it would torque steer at 85 mph.

YA, the adjustments will put you to around 230hp, depending on how far you go.
Do the truck a favor, and get a pyrometer, and a better torque converter(if auto tranny). A shift kit couldnt hurt either.

piersdiesel.com has a gov spring kit for those trucks helps it fuel up higher. turn up the fuel screw in the pump and raise the boost. and that thing will run. might even make you want one.

How about the 1995 dodge cummins, I know they are mechanical pumps until 1998.5 but I don't know how to turn up the pump. My boss has one and my buddies and I just put a single stack on it and we want to turn up the fuel pump a little for him. Any info on how to do this?? Thanks

www.turbodieselregister.com i have a 95 dodge cummins right now and its one hell of a truck i have 400ish hp in it and all ive done is increase boost on stock turbo(40lbs) put an rpm kit in it(3k) and ground my fuel plate flat and slide it full forward. also turn the afc spring to fuel it hard on the low end. advance the timing and a few other things. and that truck will run like a beast. like i said might make u want one over a psd

nevrenufhp,
I checked out your link in your sig. I looked around that link and the only ways listed to turn up the fuel pump are to move the fuel plate, and replacing the governor springs. I have heard that there is a screw that can be turned to crank up the pump is this true? Or I am I mistaking this for the afc spring?
Thanks for your help

on the 95's yes you would be confusing it for the afc spring. the afc sping changes when it fuels not how much. the older rotoray pumps yes there was a screw in those just like the idi pumps on the navistar

So I need to adjust the afc spring to get more pre boost power? Is this correct? We do a lot of heavy towing with this truck and a little more low end power wouldn't hurt. Not to mention some black smoke rolling out of the new stack would look awesome

ya, you spin the star wheel on top of the AFC til it releases tension on the spring in there. If you look down in there as you do it, it makes more sense. Then you can adjust the AFC housing too, it has a little adjustment in it, slide it full forward like you slide the fuel plate. You'll be puking some nice black smoke!
